Hello,
I have an old N scale Con-Cor DL-109 painted for New Haven which is a dummy unit I picked up many years ago.
I would like to power it and wonder what the best approach would be that would be straightforward and would produce a good running result.
No layout at this point, but DCC and sound would be desirable, if at all possible in this situation.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Fred, welcome aboard. I hate to discourage you but the old Con-Cor DL-109's had details that were pretty coarse by today's standards. The powered unit was awful, with only one truck powered and a really crummy motor. I think you'd be better off leaving that one as a dummy and picking up one of the new Proto DL-109's like the one at
http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/920-7707 before they are sold out. Walthers has them on sale at $46 and adding DCC would probably be abother $20 or so. There's no way you could come even close to that cost trying to power that dummy and the Proto's are really nicely detailed and good running engines.
Jim,
Thanks for the welcome and also for the good advice. I have been away from the hobby for quite a while and was unaware of the Walther's offering. Will take advantage of that.
Thanks again,
Fred
