Political adds ?

I'll take the ones for the Bikinis off your hands? 🤩 :D😂

Knock on Wood, but I have never seen an ad on this site after BOB made some adjustments?

Thanks for all the replies, I do try to keep all things Google off my computer but I'm finding it impossible to do so.
I do use firefox so I will be looking into the add blockers.
I dont remember clicking on any political adds but I guess I must have or I wouldn't be getting more of them?
Just thought the site could block them, but I guess that would be censoring and that may not be good?
Guess ya just got to live in a bubble or maybe off grid ?

Part of the problem is if you go to the Book of Faces, and anything political is posted on your line of time, Google remembers it. I administer a couple of groups there, and a spammer posted a bunch of links and photos for porn sites. I removed them, and him, but for a couple of weeks after, I got quite a few ads for places I really didn't want to go.

Wow, it's sure nice to know someone is watching (out for) me ?
So if I dont use Google, except for the occasional YouTube how do they get me ?
I guess from any place I go that uses google ?
and that's everywhere.......

Ahem...
The ads you see are usually personalized for you, based on places you've visited or postings you've made in other sites on the web. Big Brother's name is Google, and he follows you everywhere.
I see ads for RVs and parts for RVs, and campgrounds.
Most of my ads are for DIY repairs, coupons, and loan financing. Hmm... Sounds like Milwaukee Road to me.

I think it has to do with the DNS servers , Even if you don't do a search , or go to a site that uses google ads , google still knows you've been there. Your browser has to take the domain name you type in and convert that to an address , to do that it needs a DNS server , guess who that is .

Naw! I don't think "Uncle Joe" Stalin was that much into American elections at that time. I doubt Truman would have stood for it, and neither would Tom Dewey. Talk about the news media getting it wrong! Did you see the photo of Truman with a copy of the Chicago Tribune saying Dewey had won? I see someone is restoring the Mark Twain Zephyr. I'd love to ride it...again...when it is finished! Also rode the Pioneer Zephyr that's in the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago. Except the Q had the fourth car in the consist back then. Wasn't room for the 4th car in the museum's basement.
I thought Dewey beat Truman. After all, that’s what all the morning newspapers said. ;)

Yup! That's what the Chicago Trib printed! Harry sure got a kick out of that! I have him standing on the rear platform of my HO Ferdnand Magellan, along with a campaign aide and Bess. I actually saw them when I was six years old, and we got side-tracked in Galesburg, Illinois, on our Zephyr. Dad put me up on his shoulders and we walked over to where the Whistlestop Special was waiting. Seventy-two years later, we are reduced to HO size!

I have banned all political discussion, as per long standing policy.

As for political ads? well, running this place isn't free and they pay well. If you don't like them, just scroll on by.

If it makes you feel any better, just view it as me taking money from (insert your least favorite candidate here) to help run the place. ;)

Also, remember that if everyone blocks all the ads, this place will go away. I'd love to run ads for Model Railroader and Hobby Shops only, but they're not running ads, so I have to make do with what we can find.

Also, I just saw something that implied that Kalmbach is moving to a subscription based model for their websites. This site is free, for all content. No "subscriber only content", no paywall, no premium upgrades.

In return, we do ask you put up with a few ads. If you have an ad blocker, please consider whitelisting the site. It won't cost you anything and it will help me pay for this place. (My hosting bill for server and bandwidth is in the multiple thousands of dollars per year. My ad revenue definitely is not. If everyone blocks ads, there will come a point when I can't afford it.)

Currently I'm seeing ads for outdoor fire pits (searched that a while back) and collectible model cars (seems pretty appropriate).

The ads are driven by your viewing history, or at least mine seem to be. I was looking at tools, and got ads for tools. Cars, you name it. They are a necessary evil. I get political ones too, and yes they are annoying, but take heart. The election will be over soon, and you'll get a couple weeks off from them before the ads for the mid terms start! 😁

Ahh, we did get caught for a while by a young thing in a cowboy outfit, even got signed up and posting, till Bob found her source in central europe and she began contacting members on PM. Sherrel was sad to see her go, always a sucker for some skin. I'm thinking of posting him some pics of my toenail cuttings.

I remember her LOL! Probably some fat sweaty guy in a basement in the Ukraine phishing for personal info.

On a more positive note , previews for the the 2024 election ads are due to be released . TV stations are already gearing up for 2024 by changing over to the political ad based business model , guaranteeing viewers freedom from unwanted programming. Critics have raved about the new lineup ,with one going so far as saying "Its almost as fun as trying to catch 12 guage buckshot with your teeth".
