Here some some more sneak peeks of my HO scale Polar Express I am building. The custom decals came today so I have been busy in the paint shop all afternoon. I will get a nice full train shot when I get the custom rounded tail car done. I cant find any decent etched brass railing that i can form into the rounded shape. I do have the roof and rear facing light mostly done. The headlight will be constant lighted, waiting on the circuit to arrive. Enjoy the pics. Mike

There's a guy that makes custom lighted drumheads in ) Scale for the Polar Express and anything else you want, for $10, I wonder if he'd do one in HO for you?

I bought a pair of Rivarossi PM Berkshires to do the exact same thing (and a 10 car set of Bachmann Spectrum Heavyweights), I just scrapped the idea for now in lieu of Bachmann On30 since it is large enough to fit with my Christmas village buildings. Maybe one of these days, I'll dust the project off, yours gives me the desire to start it up again...

Thanks for the Link, but if you watch closely in the movie, its not lighted, just looks like an alum plate. Only the red light above is lighted. I have a drum head decal in my custom set, just need to get the curved railing done first, then I will put a circle of plastic on it with the decal on it Our overhead layout, which is mainly used at Christmas is G scale with a Lionel PRR Atlantic running on it. If someone does a decent Polar Express in G, Lionels is a joke other than the cars, then It will get one up there to. I guess I could pull the PE cars with the Atlantic. Mike

A neat piece of history was in the box with that Berkshire, the original sales reciept made out to and signed by the gentlman's wife. Dated 11/24/1962, sold new for 49.50. While cheap today at that price, that was still a chunk of money back in '62. I got the model for $100 needing some work. Brass prices are really low at shows compared to a couple of years ago. He also has a PFM/United PRR L1 mikado for $215 unpainted in the original box. Gonna try and get the funds together by show time next month and pick it up.

Thanks, project is kind of stalled right now, been busy with our antique garden tractors and fall tractor shows. Only thing left is the round end tail car. Thanks for the great compliments. Mike

That looks really nice. I don't know why I've never had any HO trains. Almost everything else, but no HO. Funny.

Our club here in Birmingham, is associated with the McWane Science Center. They also have an Imax theater. Every Christmas season we host a train show starting during November and running thru New Years.

During December, McWane hosts "Polar Express Parties" for the kids. They get to come and see the Polar Express movie in Imax in their pajamas and robes, then afterwards come and see the club's layout and the other train exhibits. We, of course, have to be "in costume" as engineers, conductors, hobo's etc, during this time. Last year over the season, I think there were almost 1500 kids that showed up for these Polar Express parties.

I have been looking for a HO scale polar express for over a year now and have not found one for sale in california. If anyone knows of a person who is willing to sell theres for a good price im interested. The only requirement is it has to be in mint condition.

I have been looking as well. Thinking that I just need to get a Berkshire steamer and find the passenger cars and paint, decal them myself. Might be cheaper in the long run.

im just looking for the locomotive and not the whole set. dont even know what brand it is so maybe i can find a non decal one and make it myself

Hello

Three years ago I was looking for a set of Ho Polar Express Passenger cars for my kids and ended up having to refurbish some Athern Standard Pullman's" a Postal/Baggage, Passenger, Diner, Coach, and Observation cars.
I repainted them, then created and printed decals. Purchased a Bachmann Berkshire 2-8-4 Pere Marquette #1225 Steam Engine.
It was a prototype, the first time I used a airbrush and developed decal myself. I have some picture but there not very good as there shots in motion. Some day I'll take some stills.

Cheers,
Kevin
