Here are some pics of the 2 PFM Southern PS4's one being painted and one in natural brass. I threw a 18" radius circle up on the table as thats all the fits and ran both for about an hour with the two coaches, the other cars are to long for the tight curves. Both run well, the unpainted one should be getting shipped tomorrow out to cali and Josh B for painting. Enjoy the pics. Mike
Yep, they are beauties. PFM always did a fantastic job on all the piping and other details although their soldering work was always a little sloppy, as shown on the unpainted model's front steps. Nothing that a little work with a fine pointed file won't clean up but it always irritated me when I was paying $200 for a brass model. This was back in the late 60's, so $200 then is like $800 today.
I have the original reciept for the Berkshire I got last month it was $49.50 back in 1962. These are both from the same time frame I believe. The painted one is a tad newer as it has brake shoes on the engine, the other isnt and came in the older style box that has no foam, just a center divider and the models are wraped in a corragated paper. They both pack a nice size Pittmann DC70 motor in them. I put a constant headlight circuit in the Berkshire as its done up as the Polar Express and wanted a really bright headlight. These both have a 12vt bulb in them that at normal operating speeds has a nice golden glow to it like the old single bulb steam era lights. Neither will get DCC or anything else special. Cant wait for Josh to get the unpainted one done. Mike
Nice! Nice!
Wish I could have two! BTW do you know who painted it?
Nope, no clue who painted the one. I plan to pick up some black so I can correct the the paint job, not supposed to be be any green below the running boards other than the cylinder jackets. Cant wait to get the other one home from Josh.
