A few days ago I stumbled upon a yard of a short line called the Penn Eastern Railroad, located in Kennet Square PA. There was a B23-7 numbered 5114 still in service and A B30-7 retired and looks to be used for spare parts. What caught my eye is that they are ex-Southern Pacific loco's with their old paint jobs. They never re-painted them.
Here's a link to the album. There are additional close ups etc for weathering and detail info if wanted.
Very nice find. Those units have a lot of character.
I especially like the Get Happy caboose. Not graffittied to the point where it looks like a shoe ad, just enough to make it interesting, with the original lettering showing through... very interesting.
If you download the high res image and zoom in you'll see that the Get happy grafitti was cleaned off at one point and started to rust. It looks like someone re-painted tracing the original. Also if you zoom in you can make out the original railroad "Brandywine Scenic Railway" Here's a rear angle shot showing some additional vandalism.
