hey guys im patching a DRGW engine into a UP engine, i got it all done, my only problem is that i dont know how to remove the numbers from the number boards. any suggestions? its an athearn rtr gp40-2

Well there are a couple of different ways to do this. The RTR engines have a very thin piece of clear plastic for number boards. You can pry this lose with the tip of an X-acto knife. Then you can either
a. paint over it black.
b. decal over it black.
c. sand it completely clean.
d. use thinner to strip it.

I just did an SP patched for UP RTR GP40-2. I went with the decaled over the existing number board. I don't needed lighted number boards so that worked for my application.

thats exactly what mines looks like but the one im modeling has the nose patch at the bottom and it doesnt have the big yellow patch for the shield, just a small one under the numbers but i havent added it yet. have to go get the decals

Generally all I ever do is place a number board decal over the old ones. One white boards, I'll touch it up with some white paint, then place the white number board decal over that.

thanks, im gonna look for black decals, if not then pain. anyone ever think of electrical tape? maybe that works?

Just what I was going to say. I have used very thin artist's crepe tape, which does stick well, but the surface is still not quite smooth enough for decals. Either paint, if you don't need it lighted, or decals, if you want them lighted, have worked the best for me.

i know i was just playin, only color i have is grimy black, imma have to wait to go to the hobby shop when i get a chance

I would recommend a bottle of either Testors Gloss Black or Classic Black. You'll be able to decal right over either of those as soon as they are dry. Then a coat of gloss coat to finish them off and you'll be set. ;)
