Hello all,

Since I have not had the chance of actually starting a layout, I decided to get my fleet ready. I am doing the present day Providence and Worcester. One night laying in bed wondering what my layout COULD be, I thought: Wouldn't it be nice to have a leasing company for the New England area since there are a number of short lines around. Thus "New England Locomotive Works" was dreamnt up. I also decided I was going to try to paint these units myself. They will not be fancy, just one or two colors. Here is the problem: I cant decide on a color scheme. Here is where you come in. Please let me know what yo like or don't like and vote for your favorite. I have come up with 6 schemes. Two I was able to due up to show, the others would not have come out right in paint. They are:

1: Blue body, red cab red hand rails.
2: Red body, blue cab, blue handrails.
3: All blue.
4: All red.
5: All black with white handrails.
6: Black body white cab white handrails.

The markings would be as shown in the pictures for all except #6 which would have black numbers on the cab.

What do you think? Let me know. Thanks Kevin

I went with all blue but it could just as easily be all red or all black. Leasing companies typically don't spend a lot of money on paint jobs so a solid color for the body seems to make more sense.

hmmm, not in love with either.
if no other options exist i'd go with black + white handrails (i like NS...)

just my 2 cents

Actually, that's what a lot of leasing companies do. They just paint over the former road name and logo and add their reporting mark on the cab, above the road number. Most leasing companies that deal in used engines are just trying to make a profit running the last miles off an older engines before it goes to the scrap heap. Except for things mandadted by OSHA, the FRA, and AAR, they spend as little money as possible on things like paint. The only time they'll do a complete paint job is if a railroad, usually a shortline, is buying a long term lease and will pay for a repaint in the road's color scheme.

LOL, Maybe. It would make this a HECK of a lot easier. I would not have to strip the entire unit. Just the conrail name and add some new decals. Hummmmm..............

Just to break off the patched-like Conrail image add a full length belt stripe of a contrasting color. White would work with your lettering but reality says it would be a pain for a real lease company to keep clean so maybe a black or dark yellow stripe. Perhaps easier than painting a belt stripe might be to paint the short and long hood ends in that color ala SP.

Paint both ends, interesting. Thanks.

I went with all blue, but would prefer a flat and darker blue. Same, if red was used. A 3-4 foot wide stripe down the bottom of the engine section would be nice and it is easy to mask off for painting. I did this for my home road with a yellow stripe on dark blue.

think personally the "variety" idea is a good one as well, buy a couple engines.. paint over the current road name and number and initial and number for your own road.
that way you could have 4-6 engines and make the claim as most leasing companies they are too busy leasing them to paint them.... lol

how about if you paint it all blue and put on LLPX reporting marks? that woukld be prototypical.

It would but I want to do my own, fictional leasing co. None of my layout will be inline with what is actually happening to day on the P&W. I am going to have jbaakko do a GP-38-2 in the orange white and yellow scheme of the mid 80's. Plus I though I would try my hand at a repaint.

I don't like any of them. If I were to make a choice, I'd do up something like the Wabash Bluebirds.

Bob
