good morning

Well i had some time again yesterday.
so i did some more work on section F.

IMG_0507.JPEG

backdrop is installed and i now will sand it if everything is dry.
then i will paint the backdrop in layers white first then blue.
after that i will fix the module in place and i will start on building the lift out bridge.

i will build id as solo module, so i can take it out and store it under the layout (will create a separate holding spot for it). i already have a idea in mind :)

cheers

well howdi forum folks

last weekend, i had some time downstairs.
i did finish the backdrop in section F. first i added some white color to the backdrop as a base.

IMG_0526.JPG

after it was dry i did add my bluesky color.
i did a livestream on my youtube channel on sunday too. sso i was building and chatting, and the hours went by quick..

IMG_0548.JPG

so the backdrop is now finished, and the base board is also in place.
now i will first build the liftout section. as soon as i know, how high the track has to go, i can raise the foam on section F and start laying some track again.

supervisor Aria, did not really care at all. she was just enjoying her spot, sleeping or watching out in the garden.

oh and i have good news.
this week another layout update (only on H0 Scale) will drop.
looking forward to that episode.

cheers

hi everyone

its Fall, yes it is... so i was thinking maybe its time to make another Layout Update Video.
So here it is. i show you what i was working on the past few weeks, and i also talk about what is coming.

as always i hope you enjoy. and if there is any feedback, let me know!

cheers

hi everyone

yesterday i was again downstairs and was working on my liftout bridge section. so i now have a question for you all.
if i just let it like it is, Section D is 6mm higher then Section F. The Bridge Module is around 76cm wide, that would mean the decrease or increase depends from what side your looking at is around 0.97%. i think this should still work, and it should not really be visible from eye. but what do you think? should i shift up section F 6mm or maybe just at the start and 6mm over 180cm to the end, should not be visible at all in the end.

IMG_0665.JPG

IMG_0666.JPG

what i also did is finding a good packaging for my selfmade bushes.
i think this will work. i will laser engrave the backside with the shops name, and will cut the cardboard with the laser so it looks better then cutted by hand :)

I don't have a clue, but it will look great. Thanks for sharing your work, I enjoy it!

If you are wanting to know if the trains will still run reliably, yes they will. You won't be able to pull as many cars with a single locomotive. If it can't really be seen, it shouldn't matter, other than that.

well i dont think that should be a problem on my layout, because there wont be maybe more than 4 cars at the time on my locos. because the space problem you know :)

thnx for your answer.

Marco: if the 180cm is the length of the bridge, you would have .3% grade - probably no big deal there for moving over it. Although, even at .3% your engines may experience a 'bump' at the top and bottom of the grade where the track vertical alignment changes. It might be better to make section F 6mm taller and be done with it.

no the 180cm is section F, the bridge section is only around 80cm.
but great point about the bump. will check how it looks in the end. will add some flextrack to test things.

Vertical easements are just as important as horizontal easements, and can be done with shims under the track to make the track elevation change gradual. Technically, you would never see a really sharp bump in a grade change, unless the track is cut at the transition. Because flex track resists bending to a certain extent. So that kind of shimming is more to lend support to the natural bend of the track, than to force it to bend gradually.

The devil is in the track planning, because we often conceive of the track as composed of individual segments of different grades and curves, which makes overall planning easier, but won't produce smooth running trains because the transitions heavily affect the car/loco angles and thus the couplings.

hello forum people

i had some time over the weekend so i could work on my layout. i made progress on different tasks.

supervisor Aria had nothing to supervise, so she decided to sleep on the "on hold" Z Scale Project.
I was working on my lift out bridge section.

IMG_0798.JPG

after i found the correct height, i did some testruns with some of my engines and boxcars. it went smooth, so now i can start working on the module.

IMG_0830.JPG

of course this section needs a small river. also there will be a walkway, with a concrete wall with loads of graffitis on it. maybe it will be some kind of "Hall of Fame" but we will see.

IMG_0827.JPG

the bridge is so far done and glued together (yes in this picture you can see a mistake) thanks to Walthers and there great Instructions (Hello @TLOC ) but i fixed my mistakes and after priming and painting aaand weathering you will not see any of the previouse mistakes :D

After all those work done, i also did some bushes for my shop.
this is really calming work, and i have to say i like the outcome. now lets see if they sell :)

thats it for now.

wish you all a great start for the week.

howdi peeps

well last week i was at a "tree" workshop. Hosted by the Legend Marcel Ackle.
And i have to say, it was AWESOME! I again learned a lot. and i went home with a bunch of new trees for my layout.

IMG_0981.JPG

after some hours i had some trees ready for flocking.
the great things about workshops is, that you have everything you need right there. and so you can work "quick" or maybe just quicker than at home :)

IMG_0982.JPG

this was my absolute first try and i allready liked it.
but i knew i can do better, and bring in some color variations. so i added a secondd color.
and i also painted the underbrush of the tree a bit with a normal brown spraycan.

C323F1F9-2484-4487-9469-AF07B318145E.jpg

in the end i went home with some new trees, a happy face and a lot of gained new tricks.
i can say, i already ordered some wood sticks, to start producing more trees, for my layout and maybe also for my shop :)

cheers
Marco

thank you for the kind words. but there is still room to improve and get better :)
and for the supervisor i have to say, atm iam not at this stage, my layout is still a xps desert :) but i think in the end she will not destroy anything, the two young guns maybe but they are atm not allowed in the trainroom :)

cheers

howdi folks

last weekend i did some work on my layout again. It went all smooth only one slip into my finger with a railjoiner..

B30E1982-5091-4955-AE39-13EB07D7BA87.jpg

Did work on the tracks for Section F. the new added Section to the right.

IMG_1019.JPG

IMG_1024.JPG

In the end i did go with this. Someone told me it looks almost like the classic "timesaver". Didnt know that. But now i can see it.

For explanation:

Right to left:

- in the back track goes off the layout to a imaginary Industry
- left front abandoned track
- run around track
- MAIN LINE
- two tracks in the back diesel fuel station
- left in the front diesel workshop track

lots of trash and stuff will lay around in this section, also some containers with graffiti and buildings with not so clean walls. in my head i have a clear picture. but we will see how it turns out in the end.

next step will be raise the Main and runaround with trackbed. then add the connection to the Bridge Module and Section D.

cheers
Marco

Folks its been a while hahaha.
Here is my first post in 2026 on my layout Thread wow!

IMG_1723.JPG

In this picture you see something :)
Its the Industrie Section.
Well you should know that section from the past ;)

What have i done?
I reroutet track 1 to the left. I think it looks better this way. i will now add a flat building to the left of the track with some sliding doors. between the tracks 1 +2 will be unloading, maybe some small ramps, but it will be mostly a big flat place for loading unloading.

to the right where the spraycan and matt medium is you see another work i have finally started. the liftout section connection is in place. i have to say i was scared to start this project thats maybe why i did not too much on my layout. i was maybe also overthinking it. but now i have started. so maybe by the end of te week, locomotives can cross the bridge to the last section!

oh and dont look at the blue loco, its not there no ;)
thats another project that will be handled maybe over spring/summer.

thats it for now.
cheers and i wish you all a great start for the week.

cheers
Marco

hey everyone

so last week and the easter weekend was very productive, not only in the layout room.
But here we talk only layout ;)

So i had to finish the liftout section, because on easter sunday, we had the whole family over and i wanted to show them some progress, and of course run some trains :) that meant that i had to build the liftout section finally. and i did it! MILESTONE ACHIVED!

IMG_1751.JPG

IMG_1755.JPG

the Trains can now connect between Section D to F over a small liftout section.
The section works smooth as butter! great to see, trains howling some boxcars over the section. and with the switch track, iam now able to pull or push the cars without taking the engine off the tracks woohoo.

then i also ballasted the track (after some testruns).

IMG_1764.JPG

and yesterday after garden work, i sat down with my girlfriend we drank a cold beer, and i took the section out in the sun and did some work.
i painted some of the rail ties, and added dirt to the edges.

IMG_1781.JPG

now the only thing its missing, is all the grime between the rails and some weathering, and some gras on the edge.

i wish you all a great short week!

Cheers
marco
