well well well we have news from section D!

the first mockup building is going up. trackplan is now fixed andd wont move, so its time to start with the industrie. I will work with a walthers kit but will have to make some additions. because the track is not in line with the backdrop i will have to create a longer side on the left of the building. so i will "scratch" build this one with my laser!

this also gives nice new viewing points because the track is not straight to the wall. in my head this scene already looks great. i hope i can transfer the idea to the layout. of course the supervisor has to check on that boxcar.

Hello forum peoples!

I maybe need your opinions on the following topic. i really want to add a bridge scene in my shelflayout, why? because bridges are awesome!
So here is what i got:

i soon will have those 3 bridges, 30, 50 and 90 feet grider bridges.
i will fit a stream, or a river under it, maybe a farm road, depennds on the length of the bridge.
i think i will build all 3, atm iam building the 90 feet. the other twos are ordered and should arrive soon (i hope).

here is a overview of the whole section B/C.

the question is. if i go longer, the section B will be smaller.
I there will be building a Lumberyard. if i go with the 90 feet version, i may have to re arange the layout in section B but thats okay, because as you can see i still have to build it.

so my question for you is, what would you do?
Any tips or ideas how to approach which version would be best?

good morning everyone

well i can share another update with you on my H0 Layout. Last weekend i did some stuff.
First i did assemble the 90' bridge, colored it and also weathered it. it was my first real weathering, i think it turend out okay. could do better but i think this will come if i do it more often.

then on saturday i started back over on the layout. i cutted the wood for the bridge and set the bridge in its spot.
i have to say, it looks cool when you have diverse heights. it gives the layout so much. and i decided to go with the 90' bridge for shure. it will fit somehow :)

Bob and Mike where checking out the new bridge.
and they approved the place where it will fit in the end.
then i started a bit with the first landscape, i extended the river and made another decision. i will not build a lake the whole water feature will stay a river. i think this will look better in the end.

this is now the view from Section D over to the Bridge at the end of section B.
i will definitely add some view "blocks" at the end of the industry, but just when i look now i think this looks really nice and i like it :)

what up everyone

little update from the concrete side. after different tests i decided to go with plain styrofoam and color. i still added some plaster? to it to give it a different surface on some parts of the wall

after that i let it dry, and the first layer of normal gray was put on the whole wall.

after it was dry i checked and i saw that the foam was still shinig trough.
so i put a second layer of gray on, all applyed with a sponge.
now it looks good for me.

now i will put on some weathering, i also have to check where the feet of the bridge exactly will go, so i also can apply some rust effects that are running down the wall. also some graffiti will be added.

hey everyone

i have some news from the layout. i decided to go with the 90‘ feet bridge.
i added the next turnout and also some track.
but i had to rethink and rework the trackloyout for section B. but i think this will work.

so first i had to run some engines today. it has been to long since i had some H0 engines running. so my little CN loco got some meters.
but that was also an issue. if i run the engine really slow over the first turnout in section D she looses power. i think the heart of the turnout has some problems, i have to check again.

i think when iam finished here, this will give a great spot for pictures, or videos.
also the clearence should work.

thats it for now. maybe i start adding some plaster soon. but first i will finish the trackwork in section B, and install the turnout motors.

hi all

wow its been a while. well summer you know. and a lot to do around the house or just chillin. but yesterday september started and so i started again in the trainroom. great thing about the room also, its really nice down there when its hot outside. as you all know, iam still working on the bridge scene. last week i got a lot of new kits for the layout, also 2 more bridges. a 50' and a 30' so i assembled the 50' feet bridge to see if this would work better:

the assembly is done quick. its the same like the 90' just a smaller size.
so i did place the bridge before the 90' bridge to see if it would fit:

and iam not really shure. if i put the smaller bridge where the bigger is i think it would just look to small..

i mean i would have to rebuild the river thats for shure, but also the 50' looks so small. and it kinda feels out of place. or what do you think?
at the moment i have to say, i will go with the 90' bridge. it just feels right, and the curve i will figure out.

next step is, mounting the turnout motor for the turnout after the bridge (left) then i can fix everything in place, and start with the landscaping in section C.

Hey ctc well there is room on both ends thats correct, but the problem is, on both ends there is a curve. on the left a turnout and on the right is section C. section C is one curve. so i had to try to get a small straight section. and thats where the bridge is.

i also will go with the 90 feet bridge, because the 50 feet bridge overall looks tiny. not only in length, also the side walls of the bridge are just too small for my liking. i will have to play around a little, but i think it will work in the end.

but thanks for your input.
 
Try mocking it up with a couple styrofoam blocks and see how it looks.
It would certainly gain you some clearance before the curves.
Could you shift the thru girder bridge to the left and add a deck girder to the right?

The youtube vid i have to watch at home (at work youtube is blocked).

I will, add some styrofoam just to see. but i have to say, for me the 50 just does not look right. but will check first.
also maybe the option with the other you mentioning.

hmm will have a look at it. the one piece for me looks still the best.
but will check how another version would look. i still have a 30 feet version of the bridges above. so maybe il check how it looks with those two. and than maybe order another type.

Also yesterday my last bridge arrived :D
If someone needs a bridge, i think i got you covered. I will only have 1!! Bridge on my layout but i now own the following:

- 90' Steel deck girder
- 50' steel deck girder
- 30' steel deck girder
- 90' steel through girder
- 50' steel through girder
- 30 steel through girder

As you all know iam not shure what bridge i will build over my river. but it looks like i will go with a 90' bridge.
i have to build the deck version now and then do some placing and testing.
will keep you updated as always :)

what up forum peeps.

last weekend i found some time for my layout. did a lot of different things. first i assembled the 90' bridge to see if this could work.

i think it could work, but i dont really like it this way. i want to have a access road for maintenance that goes under the bridge. with this bridge i would have mor clearance on the top side, but not under the bridge. that means i will go with the other version, but will modify the bridge so it gets a little wider, then the cars can drive trough without problems (there where no problems till now but you never know.

then i worked on my industry building. i primed the whole building first with a montana can, then painted it gray. looks good i think, next up adding more details and weathering.

then i started painting my first miniature figures. wow thats not easy. i do have to say the figures from miniprints are awesome. and i also think my first try for those two are not that bad. one is a worker (front) and the one in the back is one out of three graffiti writers. i already have a scene in my mind where those guys painting a rooftop piece on the industry building :)

and here you see the paint pens from AK. they are great for painting figures (at least what i think).
And i have a great variety of colors to bring in some diversity :)
