Heres a idea i have been kicking around for a while.so i quit thinking and started doing .i have a 3x10 ho layout so i started yesterday adding a n scale shelf layout to the front of it.5ft will go to and industry,2 ft will connect the yard to the to the industrial part.

Er... can i haz track plan?

That indeed is an interesting idea, but personally I would much prefer to have the n scale layout in the back, adding a feel of distance to your layout.
In fact, I have heard of people who use smaller structures, but never smaller trains. It would seem like the idea has some merit though.

Well, if you like the idea, fine, but it doesn't seem to make much sense. As DaWolf said, you want smaller things in the back, not the front. If you just want to run N scale, it will work, but I don't think the placement will improve the apearance of either layout.
