Northern Pacific Rocky Valley Branch Switching Layout Build

Here is a cradle that I made for my Powercab. I wanted something that I could use as a console and also as a walkaround control.
Essentially it is a cradle mounted at an angle. I can access all the controls without removing it from the cradle or I can slide it out
and use it as a walkaround controller. A couple of pieces of wood and a little bit of paint.

Awesome!

@GuilfordRailman, you may remember I'm the fella from Ma who planned to go to CT for the show. I really looked forward to seeing the layout and planned to introduce myself as well. Unfortunately a sickness in the family will likely cause me to miss the show.

I hope you have fun and I'm sure you'll post after 😀
Of course! I’m sorry to hear that! I hope they get better soon.

I will be sure to post some updates and photos afterwards:)

Boy, for some reason I never thought about it. Doesn't that look kinda like your standard phone holder? Those things are a dime a dozen just about anywhere used. Heck, I just pitched a couple as we do not OTR drive anymore and they were not needed.

Well the curtains didn’t quite turn out the way I hoped! The fabric glue I used really shines through the other side after drying and creates these horrific looking patches everywhere. Definitely won’t be using those! Oh well, minor detail.

Wanted to have that full exhibition look with curtains and all but that will have to come with the next show:)

With the show behind me, I’ve pretty much wrapped up this project! Besides the recent purchase of a new boxcar for the layout, I did receive another universal pocket for the NCE power cab controller for free including shipping. Thank you to the seller!

To wrap up this layout build thread, I’ve created a short layout tour to show it off. Check it out below:)

Great job. I can't believe you got that done in what, about a year? I've been at mine over 4 yrs now and have so far to go.

Mine is 12'x 12' around the room. I don't have the time to work on anywhere near as much as I'd like to. On the good side... I won't have the problem of finishing a layout anytime soon 😂
Nice! It’s not the worst problem to have! That’s my problem is that I keep making small layouts and finish them rather quickly haha. I’m going to make sure my next build takes at least a few years to complete!

I started mine in June and it's about done. I get focused/motivated/inspired and work a 1'-2' section at a time. Mine is 12'x2'. This is the first layout I have built that is designed for prototype operation.

I’ve been following along here and there, great layout!
