Only got a few small things done this week but it’s progress nonetheless!

I continued with painting and weathering of the general store fence and utility poles. Still a little work to do on them before they can be installed on the layout.

I also need to work on the crossing bucks and the transformers for the utility poles.

I also finished weathering and adding the old rail details to the layout. I think it turned out great!

Lastly, I glued down a few more figures. I’m currently using some other detail pieces to hold them upright until they dry.

I spent a good portion of this week filming and editing a switching session on Rocky Valley. I consolidated the roughly 20-25 minute session into 6 minutes. Since I didn’t have a tripod to hold my phone while filming, the footage was a tad shaky. Still turned out great though! If you’re interested, you can check it out here:

The layout is looking great and was fun seeing the trains run,

Thanks for posting! Dave LASM

Been quite busy these last couple weeks so not much work has been done on Rocky Valley.

I managed to continue work on one of the railroad crossing signs. I applied the decals onto the sign itself. I will need to weather these as well before this sign is complete.

I also finalized the fence around the parking lot of the general store by applying some scenic material around the bottom edge to blend everything together.

A while back I found a new and unopened THB railway boxcar at Savers. It was only a few bucks and I loved the way it looked. Unfortunately, it didn’t fit into the time period or location of my layout. It’s been stuck in its box for a few months and it’s so cool, I’d hate to not display it. I am thinking I may heavily weather it and keep it stored on the old spur track near the coal unloading conveyor.

Just something to consider for a future project:)

Working on a few little projects today for Rocky Valley:)

The first project I’m working on is utilizing some of the leftover bits and pieces from other projects to create junk piles. I only had rust brown in gloss so I will definitely need to apply some dull coat to finalize these but here’s a before and after with the paint job:

Interestingly enough, the metallic transformer in the center didn’t accept the rust colored spray paint but I think it looks cool with a bit of the metallic shining through the junk!

Another project I did was to add some old oil spills around the hoses and on the tracks adjacent to the unloading platform:

Lastly, I tried a bit of an experiment with cutting up bits of paper and scattering them about the layout to give the effect that newspapers have blown around the yard. I need to tone down the brightness with some weathering powders or paints but you get the idea:)

I will have to think on the best approach for these before permanently adhering them to the ground cover.

It’s really just down to the details at this point so over the next few weeks I’ll keep adding some more things here and there to give the scenes a bit more life. After that, Rocky Valley is “complete”!
