NMRA Question

GO PENNSY!!!
I was wondering what the benefits are for becoming a member of the NMRA?

Are there any members on the board here?

Scott

Hi, Scott. I'm a life member of NMRA and like most organizations you get out of it what you are willing to put into it. With recent changes in bylaws, when you join the national NMRA you automatically become a member of your region (Mideast Region for you) and division (Susquehanna Division for you). Think of it like a MRR club that covers several counties. If you take part in the activities the people you meet, friends you make, and the opportunity to learn is priceless. On a national level there's access to a vast store of information on railroads and railroading, prototype and model, available from the library in Chattanooga (sp?) TN and of course the national conventions. I went to my first national convention in 2002 and just being around so many people who share my interest in model railroading was a natural high.

Im a NMRA member, yes there is! Some model rr clubs only allow NMRA members to join. So example: I wanted to join the LLRC club and they said I had to have a NMRA membership to join.

You also get a subscription to the magazine "Scale Rails" which has suddenly (within the last two issues) nearly become worth the price of membership alone. They had a massive overhaul of the magazine and it shows in it's improved quality.

You might look into the trial "Railpass" membership - 6 months for $9.95. http://www.nmra.org/railpass.html to get the signup forms.

I'm thinking it's...

probably a no-brainer! There sounds like so much benefits to being a member I don't think it would be wise not to join.

Thanks guys for putting it all in perspective for me!

I am. I joined mainly to get a discount to the national conventions.

I don't get scale rails, but have heard it's gotten better with the new regime. I don't know if I'd subscribe; I would like to see the NMRA send us a couple-three free copies to show us how good it is. I've heard many members say they dropped SR in the past, for pretty much the same reasons, and I've wondered if they'd go back blindly, or if they would rather get a few free issues first, to see the improvements.

In my mind, I think SR would gain more circulation if they sent us non-SR members some sample issues.

Beyond that, I don't do much with the NMRA.
