I bought an O scale estate today. My first one. A ton of pre-war tin plate and post-war operating cars and accessories. Will pick it up next week and sort it all out. More pictures to come....

Spent yesterday afternoon going through the boxes sorting everything by type. I even had some time to clean some wheels, lube them up and get them back to life.

Lots of tin plate Lionel, some standard gauge and a little bit of American Flyer thrown in for good measure.

Best to you on the clean up and selling. Not a rabbit hole I’ve thought about as I know nothing about the larger scales. Have fun

I've been dabbling in O for a couple of years now. My wife has a pretty good collection now.
They are a lot more sturdy than some of the HO stuff I've seen. I'd compare them to Athearn BB.
At the train shows we work, there is a huge market for this older stuff. Here's the breakdown that I've seen at shows around here.
O scale = 40%
HO scale = 40%
G and N scale = 15%
Misc. scales = 5%
I get a lot of text messages from people at flea markets and garage sales asking what trains they found are worth.
I’d say 75% of the time it’s what I’d consider worthless stuff, 20% is hobby grade stuff, and 5% is actually collectible and or valuable.
Yes, family and friends are always calling , "Hey, I found some trains". Lol
Working on these old Lionels still. They are pretty easy once you do a few. Lots of missing parts I'll need to get.

As the detail goes up the sturdiness goes down. Likewise as the size goes up the sturdiness goes up just because of physics.
