Hey all! I have the Walthers New River Mine kit in N scale and I absolutely love it. I'm planning on swapping to HO scale and trying to collect my favorite kits in HO scale as I plan to scale up (hurray for a new house with a full basement!). However, this kit seams incredibly difficult to find! Everywhere I look has it on back order or out of stock but I am wondering if it has actually been discontinued. Can anyone help me out on this?

Also, how close or suitable is the Glacier Gravel kit to being used for a mine? The buildings look very similar in style. I don't mind doing any kit bashing, as I was planning to cut down the New River kit in HO like I did for my N scale layout.

Not sure where you can buy the new river mine kit, but a new member here just got one. Name is: Ianacole

I'm getting the glacier gravel kit and using it for a coal mine.

The HO version has been out of production for quite some time - very difficult to find. It took me a couple of days to find one at a hobby store that wasn't asking twice the original cost as the one I found on ebay. Good luck with the hunt, I'm definitely happy I found one.

I got it from http://hobby-time.com. Their site says they still have one. I called to confirm (the owner did a visual for me), and once he did, I paid for it and he dropped it in the mail for me that day. I got it just a couple of days later. Really good service!

The New River Mining kit is not out of production.... If that was the case, the kit would either say "Sold Out" or "Retired" on the Walthers site. The kit does not have a current scheduled production run at this time, most likely due to the fact that there is not enough demand for the kit right now. Im assuming by the last run, it took Walthers quite some time to sell off what they had on the kit, so they will wait a while before another run is done on the kit. I remember the kit was in the Monthly Sale Flyer's for several months in a row a few months back, meaning they were trying to get rid of them because they had been sitting in the warehouse for too long..... Im going to say it will be a while longer before they order another production for the kit. This is what they did with the ADM Grain Elevator kit, which is finally back in stock. I think it was a good 6-8 months where the kit was out of stock and Walthers had not scheduled another production run on that ADM kit. Once they got enough backorders to show there was interest in the ADM kit again, they ordered another production run....

You're right ... I took the "Expected: Unknown" as they weren't going to be producing it again.

Thats what alot of people assume. Walthers needs to come up with a better wording then putting the words "unknown" lol

Even "retired" kits are never truly retired. They will always make a comeback someday as long as there is demand for the kit. Once a year the Walthers buyers will look over the backorders for their "retired" products, if an item has alot of backorders, they will order another run and call it a "special or limited return run".... "Sold Out" kits are a different story, those are gone forever :(

Awesome, man you are my new internet hero! I called them up on Monday morning and they found the last one in stock! Hurray!

I'm sorry to the nitpickers who want to argue semantics but, when a company lists a product as "not in stock" or on indefinite back order while not confirming ever doing another production run, that means you are risking plans on an "if", not a "when".

I have one, it's built already (I got it at a train show) and the slack bin is missing and it needs new conveyors. If anyone is interested, I'll sell it cheap. PM me.

FYI: it's NOT the prettiest girl at the prom, I didn't build it, but it's definitely kitbash material.
