Almost all of the items that are on the Norscott link you can buy at WM & if you wait long enough WM will have the rest of them, soon.

The only HO Norscot items I've ever seen at WM (it's probably been about a year since I checked for them) weren't very detailed. Are they actually the same models Walthers and hobby shops carry? The price difference almost makes me suspect that WM carries a cheaper version

Walthers has a bunch of the HO Norscot items on sale right now: http://walthers.com/exec/search?manu=526&split=300

Would you believe me if I told told you that I got the motor grader and track hoe for about $9 each? Wal-Mart in DeRidder, Louisiana.

The Wal-Mart version of Norscot equipment is different in that they have less detail and less working parts than a hobby shop version of Norscot. All my Norscot equipment is the hobby shop version so far. The only things I'd get from Wal-Mart would be the scraper, dump truck, or the water truck. I want everything else to be fully functional and look GREAT!!! I will get the new grader and wheeled backhoe at my LHS!!!!!!!

I had a feeling that was the case. That means comparing the hobby shop prices to the WM prices really isn't fair, since they aren't the same product. Yes, you can wait for them to come out at Wal-Mart for about half the price, but then you're only getting half the product. The WM versions are probably great for scenes that aren't right up front on a layout, or storage yards where you have a lot of equipment. The hobby shop versions are probably better suited for more prominent up-close viewing, and nice flat car loads.

jeffery,

What you said is true, but then again, with the hobby shop version, you can pose them in any way you want. Some of the Wal-mart versions are limited to the positions you can put them in. Where-as with the hobby versions, they are fully movable, and can be put on the layout in any prototype position. I still like the hobby version better, even if they are $20.00 a item!!!

BTW, I went to my local Wal-Mart today. No new cars, so I finally caved in, and bought two Fresh Cherries Escorts, one Kevin Harvic #29 car, and one Jeff Gordon #24 car.

Ted, thanks for another link to make me go BROKE!:D :D
I had bought a Kibri dragline when I caught it on sale, but the dang thing is too modern. I see this site has several that would go well with my 1950's layout (along with many other goodies).

The Wal-Mart Norscot tractors were simplified versions of some of the HO scale products, and they were running about $6 each. Only a few of the Norscot tractors made it to the Wal-Marts. The included the water truck, a excavator, a scraper, a grader, a wheel loader, and a dozer. The backhoe, dump truck, log loader, compactors and none of the Case equipment was ever at Wal-Mart. So don't hold your breath that the new stuff is going to show up a Wally World, you might turn a interesting shade of purple before that happens.
