Hello!
I just received six new locomotives Kato SD70M 176-8601 -- 8606.
I'm sorry to say that four of them had trouble picking up power from the rail and one of them derailed in a curve with large radius. Two of the boogies had fell of the during the transport. It seems that the new design of the frame and trucks are not as good as the earlier design.
Have anyone else had trouble with the new Kato locomotives?

yeaaaa, i have a Kato SD70M in BNSF paint...ive got the same problem with the trucks not being able to handle certain radius'. Do you have any idea if this is just because of the size of the trucks? (them having 3 sets of axles) or is it just with the Kato locos...because im looking to get some NS C40-9 (standard cab) made by atlas and im wondering if ill have the same problem?
But all in all, with my Kato SD70M the only problem ive ever had was it derailing easily around corners...personally i think that my SD70 picks up power fromt he tracks better than all of my other locos...but i mean who knows, thats the only one i have made by Kato.
Hope you have better luck!

Hello Nate!
I have several other Kato locomotives and there is no problem with either the power pickup or tracking the rail, but they are of the old design. It is SD70, SD80 SD90 and AC4400CW. I also have some of the new design that works so it dont seems to be a general problem with the new design.
ahhh i see, so you think its just the new design then? Because now im kinda scared that when i get my C40-8s im going to have the same problem...since the trucks both have 3 sets of axels on them hah
nof I have the same problem. I just received 3 of the new Kato UP heritage SD70's and the bogies were seperate to the chassis in the box. Havn't had a good look yet and hope there are no more problems with them
I received a Kato SD70M just the other day and I have to say that I've had zero problems. The loco glides effortlessly over the worst part of my layout which is where I have two turn-outs in a row. It runs so well that I've ordered a DCC decoder with sound for it and I'm a steam fan. I only bought a diesel so I could say I have one.
