i was walking the tracks here in falmouth ky, did i mention it was friggen cold, anyway i noticed everywhere was spikes and track plates now i would to have this detail along my tracks but havent found anythig to make it from. any ideas
of where to buy or ways to make them? THIS WOULD BE FOR HO SCALE

Good question...hmm...you could go to a local hardware store or like a Lowes, or Home Depot (whatever's closest to you) and look for nails that would be small enough to cut with a wire cutter to shape into a spike...cutting it shorter and then cutting off part of the flat head to leave the lip of the spike...but thats IF you can find nails small enough...I know they have them, because I have some, just dont know where theyre from.

And for the track plates...that would be tough, i cant think of anything for those...except for just some small peices of metal, that you could paint to look rusty...I dont know how in depth with detail you want but thats all I have in mind for track plates.

Hope this helped somewhat, or gave you some ideas to mess around with.

thanks

both of you helped out so much i never thought of walthers having those and i will check at ace for those little nails thanks again

Be careful with these kind of details. If you decide to use them, make sure they are well secured with glue to the roadbed and aren't in a flangeway. The magnets in some model engines are pretty strong and can easily ingest a small item like a tie plate or spike and do some serious damage.
