I have a proto 2000 E8.. it fell off the side of my layout a few years ago.. got it repaired to "decent" working condition.

It still has cosmetic damage.

Where is the best place to order parts to repair?

Too bad - I've got a perfect P2K Southern E-7 shell sitting around here doing nothing. Walthers is pretty good about keeping parts i stock for their P2K engines. Just make sure you have the exploded diagram with the part numbers so you get what you really need.

That E7 shell will fit on the E8 chassis almost for sure....truck sideframes are only very slightly different in appearance

I'm not familiar with who ever made an E-5. The E-6 has been built by quite a few builders, and yes the E-3 thru E-6 were all similar.

But these locos had an extended 'shovel nose' that requires the front coupler on the chassis be extended out front. So the shell of one of these would be too long for the E-8 chassis unless you just went without a front coupler. The shovel nose would also be a bit long for the headlight of the E-8 (headlight would have to be extended out of the E-8 chassis (not that difficult if you intend to make it a permanent change).

The wheel bases are the same between E-3 thru E-9

I may come up with some extra shells here soon as I am switching things around between Proto units and Broadway units as I put together sound & dcc trains.

Do you have a RR preferance?
