Well I was reading CIORs excellent thread and it got me thinking... I started around 7 tonight and it took me about 5 hours, mainly waiting for glues and paints to dry. I used everything I already had on hand so its pretty basic ( I was out of sculptamold and joint compound so I had to use smooth it )but since I have never got a layout with scenery done it will give me better pics than blue and pink foam . I took the pics in basement with my crappy camera. Tomorrow i'll try to get some better pics w/ better lighting and my good camera. Eventually i'll get it weathered and a good backdrop up, but ya gotta start somewhere. It may be as good as Ciors one day.
Good way to start learning some layout techniques, Mike. The psychedelic pictures go well with the VW van. The ground cover, track, and background look great. My only suggestion is to make the signal tower platform a little more level so your little people aren't falling over in there.
yeah I didn't notice it was crooked till I looked at the pics. I'm surprised how good the backdrop looks. Its looks alot better in pic. It was from two layouts ago, all I did was took a can of blue spray paint and swirled it over some foam board.
A long time ago I seen a guy make a n scale 2' x 4' a working diorama just for taking pic's and for something to run while his layout was being built! It was just a loop of track passing siding and a spur! It was simple but detailed out the wazoo! I wish i took pic's of it! I was thinking of making one? Don't know though?
Mike,
Glad to see you got one built. See, it wasn't hard to do and now you have something to take pictures on. Plus, you can test, and improve scenery skills. Its a fun little project to do! Great job!
