My new (and maybe improved) layout

I like your Intermountain BNSF Western Fruit Express box car. Might have to get me some of those!

Progress has been slow, but things are coming together. I went to see my dad Wednesday morning for breakfast and catch up. I ended up digging thru some boxes and found these two buildings. They definitely need a paint job and some work but should work well in this space. They're going to be in my little city area, kind of like a suburban downtown scene.

I also got the Cuttings scissor company, a DPM building, which will be a nonrail served company. On to the other fun stuff, ballast and scenery!

I finally got some ballast down and scenery started. The scenery isn't complete yet since I don't have a few items but I'm happy with what's down. The ballast is woodland scenics grey ballast. It's a mix of the ho scale and fine ballast. I used one bag of each and mixed them in a container to get some variations in the size of rock. I found that to be more prototypical than having the same size ballast everywhere. And a few of the hand throws for my atlas switches are installed.

Looks great, thanks for sharing. I'm just about to start ballasting some track on my layout and will be spraying the track first much like you did.

Thanks. There are tons of different ways to paint track but I like to just spray paint it and call it done.

Your progress is looking great! Love all the industry choices and looking forward to seeing more pictures and things coming together!

I started working on my roads late last night and am going to try and post pics of the progress. I bought 0.60 thick styrene from the hobby shop since it's about as thick as the rail is tall. So I made a template with paper then transferred it to the styrene. This is my first attempt at making roads out of styrene instead of plaster so they aren't perfect. The pieces were cut a hair big incase I messed up the measurements and needed to fix them. Once they're all fitted properly, which most are now, I'll paint them grey and add stripes then weathering. More pics to come!

I've been working on the layout and running trains this week as time permits. Got a little more done at the farm but still need to paint the stripes on my road and buy more corn. I also picked up a new Athearn RTR sd40-2 and a few other cars. Athearn engines are not my favorite but the dm&e one was a great price. It runs well so I'm happy. Hopefully tomorrow I can post a few pics of a building I'm working on.

Thanks guys. I've been working on different things but have yet to actually complete anything lol!

I made more progress with my city classics trucking company. I don't have black paint so I haven't gotten to the roof yet but plan to decal the building this coming week and start the weathering. Also got the little alley laid but have to weather that as well.
