My layout: The Colorado Midland, Midland Terminal, & Short Line.

That is a unique old building! Its footprint is still visible in the modern satellite image you posted. What was it?
It was the CM's main office and headquarters building. When the CM closed, the MT took it over and used it for the same thing. Unfortunately, it burned down in the early 1950s after the MT closed, all that was left was the stone walls.

Hello all, as promised, here is my completed CM Old Colorado City office building.

The new office building looks like a great addition to your RR! Any new updates on the CM, MT & SL in general?
Thank you! Nothing big at the moment. I built the basic form of some coke ovens, but I haven't finished them yet since I can't decide if I want them to look intact, or as a ruin. I've been building a small boardwalk type deck around parts of the office, as per the prototype, and I mounted the bases for some water columns in the OCC yards that I'm going to make eventually. Mostly what I've been doing lately is painting and lettering some locomotives. I also put some LED lights into a bunch of them, mostly ones that didn't have a working light at all.

Everything looks great !!! Seeing your control panel I remember doing the same thing years ago. I'm thinking you're running DC ? I sometimes wish I would of stayed with DC. I have many many locomotives (steam) that are DC. I had a PFM Sound system years back so when DCC sound came out I was all in. But as time has gone by, and my modeling has gotten small (switching layout) most of my loco's are in the display case.

You have a Great layout, keep up the great work and look forward to more and more progress on your layout. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool. The coke ovens sound like a great scene addition. Will they be a battery (larry car on top) or beehives?
The plan is to make the type with the little cart on top like these ovens near Cardiff, Co. I may add some of the beehive variety if I have the space wherever I decide to put them. This photo came from the Denver library digital collections if anyone would like to look into the subject further.

Thank you! I can actually run it DC or DCC. I have DPDT toggles that I can use to switch between my MRC Tech2 DC pack and my MRC Prodigy series DCC controller. (I got a good deal on that several years ago) If you look closely at this photo of my panel, (and can read my scribbling😁, I really have got to paint it and make it look nice) you should be able to see the labels for both modes. I only have three DCC W/ sound models, so I mostly run DC.

Some new layout progress to report. I finally added stairs for these houses and a business in Cripple Creek. I also added the retaining wall and parking spot for the yellow house. These photos show the work in progress and finished.

I also decided to make two mountains into one by filling the gap between them. Photos once again show in progress and finished.

Lookin good! I know adding details like those stairs can be really time consuming

...but it just doesn't feel right until they are done...

Thank you! It was indeed time consuming, but well worth the effort. You're right, it just didn't feel right without them. I had put that project off for too long.
I agree, I always have used stacked plastic for stairs like you did wood. Elevating the houses from the street adds a lot to a scene.
Thank you! The wood I used is from a big box of craft sticks that look like popsicle sticks. I thought elevating the houses would make for an interesting scene, and it's nice to know that that choice proved to be the right one.

Craft sticks, coffee stirrers, tooth picks all part of my toolbox. But I have accumulated a lot of plastic sheets that I wonder what I will use them for now that my layout is completed.
I'm sure you'll think of something. Building modifications, freight car loads, repairs, etc. It's all potential uses for that stuff.

Everything's looking great. love the Colorado mountains and scenery. looking forward for all the work your doing.
Thank you! Things have slowed down on it a little bit as of late, I've been trying to figure out what to do with a few areas as well as trying to figure out what materials I want to use for a few others, but areas get done a little at a time. These are some of my many reference photos, having lived just a few blocks away from the former CM yards most of my life paid off.
