My Layout Build

That thing is going to be huge!
I know 🤩🤩🤩 it should be pretty cool if I ever finish it 😂. I'm working on the biggest building first but there is another track served building and a free standing office building too 😀

On the other hand this kit has already reminded me that kit building is about my least favorite part of the hobby. I have a neuromuscular disease which, while very much is under control, manifests itself a little bit when trying to build some of these kits. Whatever...I'll just keep doing my best and can't wait to be running manifests into Meridian Yard and Locals out again 😀

Yesterday and today I was able to get some roadbed down and loose lay a few track sections too. Some feeders dropped and we have power 🥳

I also cut the pieces for the next section of bench work and hopefully have that in place tomorrow. 😃

So no bench work today. Instead I worked on the Chocolate Factory kit. Once I get the roof on this (the largest) building I hope the worst is behind me.

As always I struggle with these kits so we’ll see how it goes together 🫣

That kit is definitely huge! Lol. I would recommend adding some strip styrene (maybe .125” x .125”?) on the inside corners and maybe along the inside walls to help support it.

The long walls and roof are made up of different sections and the kit comes with some supports but I have plenty of extra styrene so I’ll take your advice :) Best to add it before I do the roof 🤣 what do you think is best, horizontal, vertical, diagonal?

Definitely add before the roof lol. I would say vertical supports in each corner and you can connect those vertical supports with horizontal that run the length of the walls. You can also add some strips right below the roof to support that too.

I've struggled with a Walthers kit or two. It's the clarity or lack there of trying to figure out the schematics. I've had to resort to YouTube on a few occasions just to keep from the throwing the kit out.

I like to cut scrap styrene into triangles with the square corner notched slightly and brace wall corners, makes them square and sturdy.

2 more sections of bench work and some bus lines today!

I cut off the corner here to make room for a floor lamp (anyone remember the floor lamp which harpooned my old layout? 🤣🤣)?

I can’t go too crazy because these three sections will need to be removed when the sliding door is replaced and then put back.

I planned on pausing the build until that sliding door is replaced but I’m not sure when that will be so I decided to keep going. I’ll just have more layout to remove when it is replaced.

I’m not a carpenter by any stretch but I do work in construction. Check out this cut 😧

I’ve definitely done this with both plywood and foam board. Always interesting when you have to come up with creative solutions to solve these types of problems haha.
