My Fathers O Scale Railroad

This is my dad's O Scale layout located in Russellville, Alabama. He has been a train enthusiast since he was a child and got into model railroading as a young man. The layout is located in the entire second floor of my parents house. Now that he has gotten older and can't work on it as well as he once could he has thought of selling some or possibly all of it. If anyone here is interested in purchasing locomotives/rolling stock just pm me and I will give you the information needed to contact him. The locomotives are all brass manufactured by Overland, Precision Scale, and Sunset and most rolling stock is also brass. All locomotives are decaled and modeled as Southern RR. Even if not interested in purchasing I hope you enjoy the pictures. Btw I wasn't exactly sure where I should make this post so I just figured I would put it in the O Scale section I'm sorry if this is the wrong place.

If you click on MDSam's name in the What's New listing it'll take you to his profile page and only posting. There you can see what it appears he intended to post, but obviously didn't.

I'm sorry I don't know what happened when I started this thread I wrote a little intro and posted a few pictures but when I went to edit the post it seems to have erased everything. I just wanted to say that my father is a train enthusiast from Russellville, AL and these are pictures of his O Scale layout that he built entirely by himself including bench work, wiring, scenery, and he painted and decaled much of the rolling stock and locomotives. Now that he has gotten older he has thought of selling parts or possibly all of it since he has a hard time working on the intricate details. If anyone is interested just pm me and I will give you the number to contact him. Either way here a some pictures I hope you will enjoy since you are fellow train enthusiast like my father. The layout is located on the entire second floor of my parents house. All locomotives are modeled as Southern RR. Sorry there aren't better pictures of the actual locomotives and stock if anyone wants or cares to see more pics I will take more and post them the next time I go home. Thanks again and sorry for my screw up on my original post. Hope you all enjoy the pics!

Thanks to both of you i will relay the message to him! I take it for granted since i have been around it since he began building it in 1996 but i do realize how much work he put into it and know how impressive it is in person. He actually began building the layout as soon as they got the roof and walls on the house before we even moved in. He was constantly working on it from 96 until around 03 when he started having problems with his eyes and got a little burned out in my opinion. He will be the first to tell you it's not near finished and there is a lot of scenery left to do. It's funny because people see it (who aren't train enthusiast but are curious) and they say things like "I'm glad we came while you had everything setup!" haha Only other model railroaders have an idea what was involved to build it thats why i wanted to share it because i figured hobbyist would enjoy seeing it. I would like to make some videos and make him a YouTube channel so people could see it there too. I think people would get a better idea of it if they could see it in a video and see the trains running. Glad you enjoyed the pictures!

That is simply fabulous. Wonderful work. Perhaps you or friend know a videographer who could come and document your fathers work for the coming generations.

Thanks for the kind words everybody! My wife is actually a professional artist who also enjoys photography and she actually made my dad a book of his trains/layout.

She thinks she still has the link so that it can be viewed online and if it can I will try(I'm not very good with computers) to post the link on here for those interested in seeing it. It has much better pictures than the ones I've posted plus it has a lot of close ups of the locomotives themselves. I noticed your B&O avatar my dad used to have quite a few B&O engines. He had a couple of EM-1's and a few S1 2-10-2's and I believe a diesel. That would be a good idea if I could find a videographer to make a video for me to put on YouTube because all I would have to record it would be an iPhone and I don't think that could do it justice. I'll have to check into that! Thanks!

Hi,

I'm 66 and I still enjoy watching the old 16mm home movies my folks made when we were kids. We always had a Lionel setup under the tree at Christmas.

Having a video documentary of something as marvelous as what your dad has produced could become a treasured family heirloom - it would for me if my dad had crafted such a fine layout.

My Dad recently passed and I finally went ahead and made some videos of the layout for posterity's sake. I created a Youtube channel and posted the videos I made. If any of you are interested just search "Wayne Kimbrough O Scale" and the channel/videos will show up. They aren't the most professional but I did the best I could. Thanks again to those of you who had kind words to say about the pictures posted above he appreciated it!

Condolences on your loss. I liked this layout when you first posted it in 2017, but never got the original video to even load up. I now have viewed some of the videos on YouTube and I am even more impressed. Thanks for posting.

Just viewed the videos…. If I had to choose just one word to describe; outstanding!!! From the design to the layout scenery, the locos and rolling stock, simply out-friggen-standing😉
