My adventures in Ho Scale.

I started on the wet/dry bins last night. This was another fun Walthers kit to build. A few minor mistakes were made, but I'm pretty pleased with it and the others will get easier. The directions were actually not half bad on this kit. Cages, ladders and vents still need to be done yet.

Lots and lots of sanding on this one

Looks like ya done good!
I was looking at those kits but got scared off when I heard the vertical panels were a beach to do.
How did you find them?
Actually the panels were the easiest part of the build. The panels have 3 tabs. They glue into a ring that has slots. what I did wad glue the bottom with thicker glue that got really sticky in about 30 seconds, enough to hold it vertical. Went to the next panel and did the dame. I then ran Tamiya thin glue (green bottle with brush) up the seam. It wick and sets fast. Once you get a few in I alternated right to left giving the side I just installed a minutes to set. It worked out great.

The hardest was the rig on the top of the legs. The 18 legs have nipples on both end that fit into the bottom base, then you glue the cross bracing on. That part wasn't bad. You then glue the bottom funnel into the bottom of the ring and try to get the top nipples to fit into the 18 holes. I got all but 4 to fit, so I took a #11 blade and sliced them off and glued that portion of the ring to the top of the leg. It works out the dame as if you hit the holes.

And as I stated above lots and lots of sanding with this too. Walthers didn't want the parts to come loose in shipping, and attached at a lot of points to each sprue.

I posted this in the coffee shop this morning, but thought i would show it here as well.

I put the second wet/dry bin together yesterday. This one went much easier than the first one.

This time I cut all the parts out and sanded instead of doing a few at a time. I then organized them all in piles so they were ready to go. On the panel assembly, last time I glued the bottom with a thicker glue and ran a brush of thinner glue up the seam and held in place. This time I did the same, but then added the U-channel that covers the seam. That made it instantly able to stand on its own without a lot of holding.

On the base it has nipples on both ends of the legs. On the first one, I fought to get the holes lined up on all 18 of them so the ring and bottom funnel sits flush to the base. This time I just cut all the top nipples off with a knife, and didn't have to fiddle with hitting all the holes. speeded the process up a great deal.

I will add the ladders, cages and platforms after painting them whatever color they will eventually be.

Now I have to decide if I want to build 2 more or just have the 2 of them.

Nice Mike, seeing as you've built quite a large facility, and you have the space, two more wouldn't go amiss.

Over the last few days I have gotten the remaining foam glued down. I have also gotten the rest of the cork down for the last part of the mainline, and track laying has begun.

Wont be long and I will finally be able to run trains around the entire layout.
