Dom, as you can see in the first picture, the river is in full flood, so the trusses would not normally be that close to the water. In all three, the spans are mounted on piers to help support the truss structure, which is very different than a warren truss, and beefed up to resist water forces and collision impacts from debris. At the minimum. make some piers for the inverted trusses to sit on. This will make it look more realistic and give some more scenic possibilities, like the weeds growing on the piers in the first picture.

Good idea. I will kitbash a couple of Atlas bridge kit in order to add inverted trusses in each end and also one in the center section and then I will make new piers so the whole structure will sit on the bottom rather than on the top.

Thanks

I decided to follow Jim's suggestion and install a thru truss bridge instead of deck trusses. I got a set of Chooch piers and ordred a Walthers double track truss bridge. The bridge tracks are modified ME flex tracks with extra ties insterted in between the standard ties. I will install code 70 guard rail when the tracks will be glued to the bridge. I know that bridge ties are longer than normal ties so I may glue a brace each side of the tracks to simulate longer ties. Any suggestions ?

Just add a wood or steel plate walk way on each side of the tracks and in the middle. This would normally be laid on top of the longer ties but adding a few pieces of stripwood to support the walkways will work fine and no one will be the wiser. :)

Nice looking bridge and much better than the inverted truss bridges. You have quite a gap between the abutments and the existing rail line. Are you planning on extending out the embankment to meet the bridge?

Yes, I will fill the gap with foam blocks then I will glue small sections of roadbed on top. I won't use my modified Micro-engineering flex-tracks as bridge tracks since fitting a brace on short ties won't look good to my taste. Instead, I decided to use Central Valley styrene bridge ties sections and code 83 rails. Then I will a guard rail in the center.

Very nice. Looks like the abutment additions should fill in nicely with a little sculptamold and some ground cover.

Coming along very nicely. Are you planning on doing a concrete lined channel next to the tracks? Looks like a perfect place for it without trying to do impossibly steep natural banks.

Jim, I was planning to add rocky sides with a small creek at the bottom. The small canyon is about 20 scale feet depth per 40 feet wide. I plan to put handrails along the tracks to keep my train crew from falling over the edge. I will try to do a realistic scene in this compact space.

OK, should be interesting if you want to line the creek channel with rip-rap. It appears to be too steep to do much else in the photos.

Nice work!
That creek really adds a lot of visual interest by putting scenic elements below track level...

Any plans for view-blocking scenery, &/or backdrop(s)?

I must have missed this on!!! progress is comin along. Personally I liked the original bridges.!! But as long as it makes you happy!!!

Great work

Later,

Devlyn
