We talked about this in a thread a while back, but I can't find it now. So sorry to bring this back up, but I found a way to make the MU Cable holder cans that some railroads are using.
Before I used aluminum tubing to make them. It was a bit of work to cut them, file them down smooth etc. And they still looked to thick for my liking. Here's an example of a set done this way.
Now, I got to thinking, what is an easier way to do this
Well, I came up with this...................
That is a small drinking straw from a bar!! LOL I don't drink, so I had to go into a bar and ask the lady working there if she could give me a handful of the thin drinking straws. She looked at me kinda funny (I said don't ask) she gave me a lifetimes supply, so I added a couple of dollars to her tip jar and walked out smiling.
It worked out real nice that these are black, but that doesn't matter I guess. I cut them to the right length, glue them to the stanchion with a little Walthers Goo, and there you go!! They look real nice painted up, and they look thin enough now. Just thought I'd pass this little tip on to you guys.
