Morgan Turney, publisher of Canadian Railway Modeller Magazine and a very good friend, has recently passed away.
I met Morgan many years ago at a local train show and soon after began writing a column for the magazine.
We spent many a day trackside with cameras in hand, running on various layouts around Winnipeg, or just sitting in donut shops discussing all things railroad.
Morgan was instrumental in the forming our local club, the Selkirk Model Railroad Association, and made the half hour trip from the city many times. He was also a long time member of the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club and served as president a number of years.

One of my favourite memories was the time I was helping out clearing snow in the city.
During a midnight shift I found myself driving down Morgan’s street with a large front end loader and noticed a big pile of snow at the end of his driveway. I thought I’d do him a favour and get rid of it so I lowered the bucket and dug in only to find a good part of it was mud on the bottom! Well I put the pile back where I had found it and continued on my route.

A couple years later when I told him the story he took me by the arm and dragged me over to his wife.
“Tell her what you just told me!” he demanded.
Well it turned out that since that night she had been accusing him of coming home late after a football game and driving into her flower garden at the end of the driveway!
We still laugh at that one.

Rest in peace old friend, see you at the next station.

Rico, sorry for your loss. That is a wonderful anecdote 😂

It is always sad to hear the passing of a fellow model railroader. May he Rest In Peace.
Thanks for the information, Rico.
