Well, here's where the "spare parts" came from for the Modernized MDC Mogul. This is the Model Power Mogul. It came with the arched window cab and cylinder saddle with piston valves installed, but I changed to the square window cab and cylinder saddle with slide valves. As such, the proportions are about perfect for the GBW saturated/slide valve moguls, although it is oversized by about 10%. C'est la vie. All I had to do is add the bunker extension, coal load and decals. The decals are prehistoric Northeast Decals ... thay are at least 20 years old, but they were in perfect condition. The tender herald is is on a .010" piece of clear acetate to simulate the bolt-on herald used on the prototype. The outline should be dashed, but oh, well ... can't find a "correct' N scale tender herald yet. The final weathering and misting with DullCoat has not been done yet; it's just sitting on my test track for function trials.

This worked out well, as 251 worked the Sturgeon bay end of the line through the 30's until at least 1940. It was the last slide-valve loco purchased by GBW.

Next project is No. 351, starting with Spectrum Consol.

Carry on!

Yikes! There's too much "rust" there! It should be a light coating of dirt, not rust below the running boards, on the dirvers and trucks.

Also paint your siderods black, it'll make it look alot better, and at the very least make it look like they get a bit of oil once awhile!

Hmmmmmmmmm. You obviously never saw a A&W/GBW steamer near the end of it's service life in secondary service. For the most part, those assigned to the east end were left out in the weather adjacent to the Sturgeon Bay depot, and the Wisconsin winters are not kind to steel things ... locos, ships, or automobiles. I am working from color photos. The prevalent color was "rust". As I said, the weathering is not done (obvious by the shine), including the rust.

Resp'y,
Bob S.

Ah, I see, and I agree about wisconsin winters...BRRR!!!

Are you going to add some darker brown and orange to your rust to add more depth, because not much rust is boxcar red. ;)

Soot out of the stack and onto the firebox?

White water stains around the safety valve?
Windows?

Rust around the water filler hatch on the tender, and streaking down the sides?
