Modern-day SPSF

Here are a few photos of my model railroad, the modern-day SPSF.
The SPSF formed from the merger of the Southern Pacific and
Santa Fe in 1986. The ICC approved the merger because of the SPSF's
appeal, citing the merger of the Burlington Northern, which had its own
monopoly in the Northwest United States; the Staggers Act of 1980, which
permitted such economically efficient and public beneficiary corporations; and
a new plan that sold all of the railroad’s property north of Sacramento to the
Union Pacific, the Denver and Rio Grande Western, and the Burlington
Northern, respectively.

Since the merger, the railroad has grown to acquire
various parts of the Rock Island, the Soo Line, the Kansas City
Southern, and the former Nickel Plate Road lines from Norfolk
Southern. The focal point of the system is the Midwest, the central
transfer point for railroads in the US, and "Where the West Begins."

I am focusing on modeling the Omaha area (see page 3 of this thread for a
map), and will ultimately expand to an Omaha-Chicago layout. Currently, I
am just building up my rolling stock and running trains on a club layout.

This is great. Could Modern Day Fallen Flags be the next "thing" in model railroading? Once again, what a COOL freelance idea!

I can imagine a world where the Grande swallowed up UP and there's black and orange flying heralds all over the place! :D

Talk about your fantasy club.... what's with the AMD103's? Has the SPSF taken up passenger rail again?

Thanks guys, glad you enjoy the photos.

The AMD-103/P42 is the locomotive of choice for our executive fleet business trains. And the SOO Line is mine!

Here's a "what if" I did for a friend a couple of years ago:

Yes! YESSSSS!!!! That would have been delicious, Eric. I think the idea of modeling modern 'fallen flags' is VERY cool--even though I'm happily stuck in the 'forties, it's fascinating to see how modelers are using their imaginations to keep these railroads alive.
The modern day SPSF is really fascinating--especially those AMTRAK units.
One question--how do you guys get 'full-size' shots onto the web? My JPEG seems to be frozen at 5x7. Is there something you guys do on this board to enlarge them when you post them? Just curious
Tom

Somehow I'm not surprised that the thought of Grande patches on UP units would get a grin from you, Tom. :D

Do you think Grande would have charged a modeling fee? (Ducks and runs)

Tom, if you have a high-megapixel (5.0 or greater) camera, there should be a setting for the size or resolution of your desired images. Many people go with the smaller size because they can fit more images on their flash-memory card. I always have mine set to 'largest', then after I download the image onto my computer, I use a graphical editing tool (a Photoshop "wannabe") to resize it downward.

Hope this helps...

What's the story with this fella laying down????
Is he drunk?
Overcome by the fumes from unit #4231??
Has he just fallen and can't get up??
Did someone hit him in the head with a rock??
Is he inspecting the overhang???
What's the scoop???????
 :D

Zephyr were just easing you :)

I think the women that is laying on the ground at the Passenger station fainted, for once a train was on time, since AMTRAK wasn't the carrier ;)
