Mining site


As GM says, fantastic site, thanks for posting the link. I started reading and couldn't stop until I read every page on the web site. Now I have to get back to what I should have been doing.

If my memory serves me: The Shamrock mine, at the bottom picture of the first page, is where they had a mine disaster that killed many men when they hit an underground river. Although that was before my time, I lived in Providence in the 50's as a young boy and my father was a shovel operator for a strip mine operation. Providence is in Western Kentucky, near Madisonville. Most of the town is undermined and there were several cave-in holes in people's backyards.
 
Great site! I got to the third page and quit since I'd like to read the other posts here and it looks like I'll be up all night going through that site. :)
