Anyone have this kit? Is this a good deal? I know I could use alot of this stuff..
Chad
What Kit? You talking about the Micro-Mark Catalog?
No, it's not a good deal. The radius tool and track alignment tool are good but they can be bought separately for less. The major cost in that kit is the ballast spreader, which doesn't work at all. No matter how I adjusted it, the ballast wouldn't come out cleanly and I got random piles in some places and no ballast in others. Spreading it from a paper cup folded into a slit was a lot faster and more effective.
I like Micro Mark as much as the next guy. However with that said, they do have quite a lot of gimicks and so called "deals". I was on thier site yesterday looking through thier website and there are a lot of things on there that you could find cheaper. But they do have quite a bit of stuff thats well worth the price and some stuff you just wont find anywhere else. I was going to pick up Dave Frarys 3rd edition Scenery book a few months ago. MM had it and strangley, they had it in thier closeout section for around 15 or 16 bucks. I never jumped on it at that time and waited. Month or so went by and it was gone from thier website so I called. They said they no longer carry it. Looking at thier shipping charge. It would have ended being the same price if I bought it locally anyways. But still, they do have some fair prices on many items.
To me, the Micro-Mark catalog (and maybe the walthers catalog too) would be similiar to a car guy (like myself) looking through a Summit Racing or Jegs catalog. For those that may be familiar with that.
I used to get a Micro Mark catalog in the mail every time but now I rarely ever get one at all. Tried subscribing online but I still rarely ever get it. It would be nice to get them more often.
Question, has anyone tried the weathering powders they carry? Do they rate well compared to the other quality powders out there?
