Bought this kit from N-drive on the other side of the world. I have an OO-scale version and really like the boxcabs for some reason.

This is a white metal kit with brass etchings. This'll be a first.

It came with a motor drive.

The brass etchings are the window sills, yard number plates, and cowcatchers. He gave me two sets in case i hose it up.

And the small parts.

There is some flashing I need to clean up. I need to first fit these together and see what is flashing and what is not...

And to give this some scale...

Mini-me.

I wanted a glass panel to work on that would give me a flat surface and a good 90 degree corner to use as a jig to get the panels square. I went on the jungle site and did some searching around. Of course fiber optic polishing plate found everything but a fiber optic polishing plate. So, I tried what looked like would work. What showed up, was far from what the picture looked like.

It neither has sharp corners nor is flat. It is about 10# and makes a great paper weight or stand.

2nd attempt was better. Flat at least but no good 90 to use.

So, no excuses left, I started working on this finally. First step was to pre-fit everything and find out what flashing needed to be/could be removed. I used an xacto blade and cuticle snippers to get as much of the extra materials off. I also made sure the pieces were flat and would join together with minimal gaps.

I pre-fit the four steps into the side pieces and marked them to go back into their locations later as I cannot glue these in at this time.

I also pre-drilled the holes for the brass buffers, bell, and handrail knobs that I bought for this model.

This is my first metal kit. I wrote to the company and he sent me the instructions so that I could see what I was up against before buying.

So far, the parts are fitting nicely. I just hope I can get it all square.

I printed up a stand that the roof could sit in. This helps a lot since the roof has a chimney and wouldn't sit flat.

I ended up using CA jell and followed up with CA glue to ensure that the stuff had gotten everywhere it needed to go. Put a rubber band on the skirt to squeeze it together while it cured.

Kinda hard to see, but this came with brass etched windows that needed to be glued in. They fit nicely.

Once this thing solidified, took it outside for a coat of primer. I had washed the parts before with warm water and dawn.

A few days later, a coat of brown.

Going to have to do some touch ups afterwards. The roof will be gray and the skirt will be black.

More to follow.

Got it all painted, a bit splotchy, but gudenuff. Buffers, handrail knobs and bell installed. Need to get some fine wire to run for the hand rail, get the headlight installed and still figure out what to do for the coupler.

I would like to get a better bell. Anybody know where to get n-scale brass bell?

I just realized I've been calling it a hand rail. It's actually the bell pullstring.

THanks! I'd have to find out when a show would be out here. I was trying my best Japanese impersonation to see if I could find one on-line that was local! :)

Looks like it is coming along! Great job!

Finally finished it. The cowcatchers are super thin and easy to distort. I used bluetac to secure the motor in the body. I also managed to get a Kato coupler glued to the backside and cut the cowcatcher to allow it to go through. If the glue fails, the cowcatcher will be toast!
