I recently got back into model railroading after a spell of 20 to 30 years. I have many old issues of Mainline Modeler magazine that I prize for their content and quality.
Does anyone publish a magazine of comparable content and quality today?
I recently bought several more issues on ebay. Thanks for any suggestions.

I use to go to every hobby shop that I found when traveling in sales, just to see if any of them had any Mainline Modeler. Once in Sarasota, Fl. in 2001 I found about 200 copies & bought all of them for 25 cents ea. & found some more at a hobby shop in Tallahassee, Fl in 2004 & paid 50 cents ea. for all he had. Now, they are a lot harder to find. To my knowledge no publisher has made a mag like that one since. There's a prototype mag that still comes out that is photo intensive but not many pages. Since that mag ceased, I get all of my idea's & photo's right here on MRRF & you can download whatever it is you need for free. That magazine in it's day was not cheap & that's why they could'nt compete w/all the other mod. RR magazines. I sure miss it & I'm sure a lot of other people do too.

Larry, thanks for the response. You're a lucky guy to have bought them when you did. I really didn't expect to hear that there was a comparable magazine out there, but had to ask. You're right that MRRF is a great source of excellent information, and the price is right.

I myself am on a quest of completing this series collection...I have a ways to go though. This was one of the few magazines that had such wealth of information for all modelers alike in my humble opinion. It will be a while before I complete my "library"on these magazines though. I am working on this and one other currently which my time is devoted to finding.

I have the complete set of UPHS the Streamliner and also the Diesel Era both of which are all up to date an current with subscriptions. I have a few Model Railroader mags but I just keep certain ones of interest etc.

The other magazine I am working on completeing are 2200 South Magazines which I am almost done with completing the series to date (about 15 magazines short).

I am also on a search on various books but it will...like everything else in this hobby will take time and luck to find them.

While not aimed specifically at modelers, I think Extra 2200 South is still the best prototype railroad magazinen out there. No ads, just good pictures and content. Since I was a contributor to the magazine in its early days, I've always had a special place for it in my heart.
