Mail Call! Railway Post Office, commonly abbreviated as RPO has rolled in!

I think I have a problem... I love building freight cars, and keep buying more of them. :) A couple of days ago someone posted a huge list of kits to the HO Swap email list. (That list is both the best and worst thing to happen to me.)

I picked out a few items that sounded interesting - then it turns out he actually lives in Minneapolis too, and would deliver them to save postage! Bonus!

He just dropped them off.

  • A Branchline kit for a Texas Pacific 50' box car.
  • A Proto2000 kit for a SLSF drop end gondola
  • A Proto2000 kit for a UP 50 ton flat car
  • An Athearn custom painted ATSF 40' box car
  • A 41-46 Chevy truck tractor

Woohoo! This arrived on track one today and it sounds awesome!
(Willie did I win that race?) :p

Yes sir, you did! My UPS tracking indicates Friday delivery. ScaleTrains didn't actually ship until yesterday.
Bad news at least to me. Even though the UPS distribution center about 25 miles away, which is the home center for my area, received my shipment about midnight last night, they handed it off to their local post office. Even though that post office is only 15 miles from mine, they will send it to the regional distribution center in Ft Worth, who will then send it to my local post office. A 95 mile round trip and two additional days! My post office will attempt to deliver on Saturday, but because I am on a rural route and my mailbox is over a mile away, they will leave a notification that it wouldn't fit in the box and I can pick it up at the local PO when they open on Monday. Also, I am now off the UPS tracking site so they will not track it any more. I now have to use USPS tracking which is notoriously inaccurate.

OK, I got lucky. A close friend who works part time as a rural mail carrier, was in the post office when the truck arrived this afternoon, and helped sort things. He noticed a package from ScaleTrains with my name on it and called to let me know that if I came before they closed, I could pick it up before it went on the normal carrier route for tomorrow. I wasted no time.

These are Operator models because ATSF was not available in Rivet Counter when pre-orders were due last November. The upgrade kits with grabs, MU hoses, uncoupling levers and other stuff is now available, (it wasn't listed on the pre-order form); so that is next. Meanwhile I ran them for a brief break-in and then changed those awful ScaleTrains couplers for Kadee whisker ones.
Thank you Bob for letting me know and saving me a few days wait.

Willie nice haul! Impressive locos! Makes for a nice lashup!

Haven't seen that paint scheme before. Too bad the BN didn't adopt that one after the merger than that horrible green, black and white job they had for years before the BNSF paint schemes. Of course, since my "era" stops about 1960, I still prefer the "grayback" scheme of the freight cab units and black, gray with red and yellow stripes of the switchers.

Willie- that sounds typical for USPS. If I mail something to wife’s grands outside of Stratford(10-15 minutes away), it gets routed via Green Bay(140-some miles one way).

Well I got this in today....HO Scale Model Railroad Scene Master Forklift Set

I am slowly getting small detail stuff for the layout. This will go where I will have my Timken Distribution Warehouse for scenery etc. I ordered a few more of these and the pallets package as well as the 55 gallon drums. For $ its pretty good.

Another month and things will start to cool down here. Looking forward to that. Still to much to do outside before I start working inside again. I have another load of wood to retrieve, walnut this time.

Very glad for you Willie. ScaleTrains is doing good work on their locos. I have five of their SD40-2's, and they have become my go-to road power when running trains at club. I sold my one Kato, and I don't use my Athearn SD40-2's as much now. (Shane of ScaleTrains did say this was their goal.. haha).

I heard the SD45's have had some shaky reception. I've seen a few disappointments on the C&NW SD45's. Glad to know yours are in good order.

As the leading force in making/gathering hot-swappable open carloads at my club YA DUN GOOD! Haha. Those are pretty cool, I'll have to look for some.

Here's the part where I'm scared to participate. Someone noted elsewhere that I take in and sell off stuff rapid fire. I have a known drug addition to plastics! Going on 13 years now.

So I'll try to stick to what's important. Being I've become a die-hard Milwaukee fan and my modeling confidence is going up and up, I'm starting to get parts. Fortunately, Lines West is on the scene 3D Printing MILW-specific details, like 3M Thermal Generators and MILW SD40-2 ice breaker bars. Latest big thing to come in the mail was a batch order of stuff, Ice breaker bars, two pair of all-weather windows, switch stands for an area of my club's layout, and some really nice caboose decals. LW also puts out some GP10, SD10, and 1940's caboose conversion kits which I think will be my next undertaking.

I just ordered a FM locomotive from Rapido with a delivery date of Winter 2021. Another locomotive a SOO SW1200 is also on order and should arrive some time next winter.

I'll wait.

This CN locomotive's color scheme is one of my top favorite color schemes. Even being a CN, it will be a leased lcomotive on the CM&N Railroad. I ordered a sound unit.-Greg

Hey Der Folks!

Someone should have warned me that this craftsman kit thing is additive lol. I was really wanting the Sigmon Used Cars kit, so I decided to reach out to Doug. He said he had an extra, and he would throw it in with my order, what an awesome kit company, and all around great guy.

Well the 2 of my CNW units showed up on the door step today as I mentioned on my thread https://modelrailroadforums.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-new-beginning-jrs-uprr.31740/page-6

Athearn CNW SD40-2 #6876 “Old Yellow” -Digitrax decoder installed, flashing beacon came in pretty darn good condition. She tested true on the test track DCC per road number ran flawless even the flashing beacon/strobe worked as it should! Only thing wrong was the horns on the cab roof are jacked up! I will need to replace those.

the other CNW unit Athearn CNW SD60 #8021 Zito yellow also tested out great. Currently no decoder in it at the moment. It did run great in DC mode. Only thing wrong was one broken hand rail on the front engineer's side. But it can easily be repaired. I am pleased with these 2 purchases.
