Mail Call! Railway Post Office, commonly abbreviated as RPO has rolled in!

So a few weeks ago I mentioned in the coffee shop about starting a thread for "Mail Call" a few of you thought it would be a good idea so here we go!

This thread would pertain to any Model Railroad related items you ordered and received for your MRR or other.

So include your picture and tell us about it and even give your review or reasons for obtaining the item or items

I have been working on a obtaining a few rolling stock for a short line that will inter change with my JR UPRR layout.

The Atlanta and St. Andrews Bay Railroad (reporting mark ASAB), also known as the Bay Line, was a Class I railroad which operated in Alabama and Florida. The company was founded in 1906 and opened its mainline between Dothan, Alabama and Panama City, Florida in 1908. Later reclassified as a short-line railroad, its assets were acquired by the Bay Line Railroad in 1994.

Although UP never interchanged with ASAB but on my layout they do! I just happen to like the fact they had quite a few Alcos!
I especially like the RS-1s they had! So in the future I will obtain (2) locomotives one RS-1 and 1 either GP 38-2 or GP 40 in the ASAB scheme that will interchange on my JR UPRR.

So in the mean time I am just gathering a few ASAB rolling stock. So recently I got these from Evil bay. On my other thread on my MRR layout you will notice some other ASAB cars I already have as well. https://modelrailroadforums.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-new-beginning-jrs-uprr.31740/

As a UP fan I was a huge fan of Terry Metcalfe's talent and knowledge of Union Pacific so recently I obtained some old articles from old past magazines that I didn't have and wanted. I plan to scan these and put them in my digital archive. I already have all of Terry Metcalfe's books and all of the UPHS Streamliner magazines from start to present. Although Terry passed sometime ago I am always looking for some of his old articles from various sources. I found (2) magazines where he had articles in.

I know this is supposed to be about what you ordered and received, but this is what I would like to order and receive. That being Atlas N scale code 55 turnouts. We appear to be going through another period of scarcity. I haven't been able to find any anywhere. Does anyone know of a place other than the Great Auction Place In the Cloud that has any available? They mostly want a king's ransom there!

After much appealing for enlightenment on forums I was getting nowhere fast finding out about pre-war Pennsylvania passenger car painting and lettering. 5000 copies of "Pennsylvania Railroad Passenger Car Painting and Lettering" were published by the PRTHS in 1988, so what were the chances of finding one in the UK? And then this popped up in the online second hand zone of a model shop in Sheffield, Yorkshire. So now I know how to paint my stack of Pennsy cars. Now there are no excuses soI just have to get on and do it.

Wasn't it just. It still has the two pages of paint colour swatches at the back intact. Possibly the best thing I've bought this year.

In 1994 they transitioned well and did pretty good updating their rolling stock. It's a very interesting RR to say the least.

Check out this link....it has a pretty good brief history and pictures of the roster. Like I said I love the Alco RS 1

Just got these today. I should be ordering buildings and other stuff first, but my trucking background took over. The plan for these is to combine the two kits to make what we call a west coast 9 axle. Slightly longer deck with long neck at both ends. Then a jeep at each end with a 2 axle dolly at the rear. It will be at home on the layout near the SP dock at the Guadalupe yard moving equipment off the flatcars to the trailer. Someday, maybe I hope, with any luck.

JAMES - Loved the ASAB link - my kinda stuff!

PV DAVE - neat, but too modern for me. I'm in the Autocar/FWD group, lol! Some of the largest trucks I can remember were oil field winch and Halliburton trucks in the 50's.

So I pulled this center beam car out of the box that I received in the mail that I posted earlier. Put metal wheels sets on right away. Will change the couplers to kadee later...I am satisfied with this car. Glad I got it!

Mail call today (2) Atlas Trainman ACF 50' 6"Box Cars. That's all I need for the The Bay Line interchange with the exception of maybe one or two wood chip cars AND the (2) locomotives RS-1 with choppeed nose and either a GP-38 or GP-40.

You might find a use for a pair of these with that centerbeam

Grabbed another old magazine on the ASAB. Wanted a little more information etc for this short line. As mentioned before this line will interchange with JR UPRR.
