due to the curves and the era in which I am modeling, I am looking for the 40'ers wooden box cars, stock cars, lumber cars, log cars and old style tankers

I get lost in walther's on line site,

I am looking for economical but not cheap quality cars,

btw I'll try and post the new sisal rope pine forest tonight I have built about 72 or so sisal rope pines (tries to make them look more like the "commercial" pines that grow around here on the local "pine plantations" I also bought 33 woodland scenics smaller pines

Hummm, I find that finding rolling stock is hard too. I'm too picky I guess. I just eBay search an item I want, or flip through the sale fliers Walthers sends out. That how I picked my first Superliner up.

Big Dog The Walthers catalog is on sale at most Hobby Shops for $9.99 , Thats half off the regular price and much easier to negotiate then their website !!!!

I'm guessing you already thought of this, but check out ebay if you don't already use it. You'll find both new and used items there, and you can find some really good prices. On the other hand, you can pay too much too, so know what the item is worth. Also be careful to read the shipping and handling charges, there are a few folks who like to gouge you on those...

there is a train show comming up in March 'bout an hour away!:D

unfoutanately only hobby lobby no true train shops:mad:

I found some on ebay-- Mantura Metal:confused: Weren't they tyco back in the 70'80's (i had a tyco layout when I was a kid but had the cheap cpuplers and plastic wheels )

the mantura metal cars have metal wheels and the kadee/ezmate style couplers, and

what about Bachmann Silver series they also have the metal wheels and ezmate couplers?

I also found some atlas and athearn stock as well and some of the round house was in my price range

pics of the trees later

Big Dog, will you shop online stores? That's where I have bought about 90% of my stuff and saved a bunch. Probably my favorite and fastest is: http://www.1stplacehobbies.com./
and then there is: http://www.internettrains.com/merchant2/

If this is something you are interested in, others have their favorites and will recommend them to you at your asking.
Rex, after reading the recent reviews of Internet Trains, I'd say avoid them 100%.

Personally I use 4:
http://www.walthers.com
http://www.rrtrains.com
http://www.preownedtrains.com
http://www.sushob.com
(though I have yet to order from Nate!)

What's going on with Internet Trains; I haven't used them in awhile. They were always kind of slow, but other than that, I didn't have any problems. I know they have made a lot of changes over this past year...maybe in the wrong direction??? Tell me please, because their inventory is always tantalizing.;) :)

Big Dog stay clear of the Ebay site that suff is used and sold as is. Mean it is used and missing parts and that is too much for what he is selling !!!!!!

Thanks for the plug :) I had some time off from school due to the snow/sleet/wind/temps, so I was able to get Kadee up on my site. Not sure which manufacturer to do next...I think I have some new Bowser and Walthers items to get listed though.

Nate, been watching you for the Tower 55, Atlas Autoracks, some more H22A hoppers, um, need two DS-4-4-1000's sometime in the coming year, and Walthers Superliners...

Rex, the guys on the-gauge were discussing it, apparently one guy has been waiting over 2 months now.

Thanks Josh. Geeze, 2 months for an item really sucks. I only had one run in with them and it was about time. They delayed my entire order for one of the items that was suppose to be in stock, but was due in from their "warehouse" (probably Walthers warehouse:p ) most anytime. I did not check the BO box, but they thought I would like to wait. Nothing shipped for 3 weeks + 1 week shipping. This was the only time though and I made many orders. It's a shame because they do have a nice selection and the right prices. I now do most of my ordering from FirstPlace in Indiana which takes only 3 days UPS. They send the order out the day it is received or next day.;) :)

Thanks for all the help, I took a 180somthing mile road trip to the closest hobby shop and bought 2 road house kits and a athearn kit they were priced 5.25 -8.50 I di howvwer have to buy some couplings for the roadhouse brand cars it came the cheap lil black coupler the Athearn gave you a choice
