Anyone have a link to a simple tree-type chart showing who was bought by who, and who merged with who, etc?

no but wikipida will show or tell who bought what railway. just search each line and follow the history section

I was hoping to find a extensive flow-type chart. I watch some show on the TV where they mention the ____ line, and I wonder; what ever happened to them.
The spikesys link is very close, but a little hard to follow.

That chart at spikesys is actually quite good but the layout is a little hard to follow. I do a lot of genealogy work and use a program called Family Tree Maker. It could produce a much more readable chart but it would stretch across many pages. I may try putting some of those railroads in and see how it looks. I suspect the reason we've haven't seen a better family tree of railroads is that it's a lot of work, especially if you start adding bankruptcies and slight name changes in.

It definitely is a big task....at one time I remember seeing a log somewhere of the AAR listing of RR it is incredible huge from the early dawn to today RR.

If you read through some of the system Maps in Trains magazine they have the fallen flags, ect. However, I've never really seen something so in depth online. Would be a nice addition.
