I just received the 4 LokPilot Basic V1.0 DCC decoders I ordered. It's some thing new, being there low cost $19.50 and have the BEMF feature. I installed 2 in my Intermountain F7's and the different was dramatic. I chose this decoder because of it's BEMF. The ability to maintain constant speed up and down grades. The problem I was having was that after a train exceeded 20 cars the engines started to be pushed down the helix. At 30 cars the engines would lose control of the train. Last night I ran the 2 F7's with 28 cars in toe and started down the 3% grade. They ran flawlessly down the grade. Today I'll add 10 more cars and see what happens. The problem is that I need to change all my decoder and right away I have a problem. I also ordered two Atlas Penn Central RS-4/5's. I took the shell off the engine and found there's no place to plug in the 8 pin decoder. I'm not even sure if it will fit. So at this point I cut off one of the plastic tabs that hold the light board in place to give the new decoder more room. I'm going to guess that if I just cut the wires on the decoder and manually hook them to the light board every thing will work. I guess the resistors on the light board will drop the voltage to about 2 volt for the led head lights. If this wasn't DCC I guess that's the way it would work.
