Hello,
Just dug out my HO scale trains that I had when I was a kid!

I've been cleaning up the engines and repairing,my question is, where can I
find new rubber bands for the various makes of engines that I have???

thanks!

If you are talking about the old Athearn and Globe engines that had the Hi-F drive as it was called the drive bands are still available from Athearn either direct or from a local hobby shop. Most hobby shops do not stock them but should be able to order them from thier distributer. I was able to pick up a package right from stock at my local shop. 36 bands in a package and cost under $4. I had no luck at all hunting through office supply stores for bands that small and even pharmacies no longer seem to stock the tiny elastics used for dental retainers and braces.

As Mike said, you can get the drive bands direct from Athearn. It's kind of amazing that Athearn still stocks these when a Hi-F drive engine hasn't been made for probably 30 years.

If there are good engines you want to keep, you might want to consider getting a repower kit since those Hi-F units run like rockets. :) You can get reower kits for about $45 so their not cheap but it might be worth it if you have an engine that's either a rare paint scheme or has sentimental value.

I buy the drive "belt" I get from Dollar Tree. Just rubber bands. A whole bag will last you 3 lifetimes.

Odd how if you give a product., a rubber band, a fancy name, in this case "drive belt", it's retail value increases 100 fold.

Do yourself a favor, save some money, and go to Dollar Tree.

Bob
