I am operating my lionel switches with on-off-on 3 pole switches. They work great, however, I want to power my lionel switches separately from the transformer. How do I do this????
The 022 switch has a side voltage plug. This is your separate power feed. When plugged in, the center rail power is cut off. If you have the 1122 auto non derailing switches, that would be a challenge. If you isolate the center rail from the switch coil, that's how to get a separate power source. This is done with a bar in the switch. When you connect up watch out for shorts.Post if you still have a problem.
When using older power supplies make sure they are both in phase. Today we have big side, little side plugs. In the Golden Era they were reversible. About the auto feature, the new power supply will ground out to the track, so maybe they should be sharing a common ground. If it doesn't work then you should definitely connect the grounds on the transformers together.
You need to drill out the rivets to get access. I used a number 4 machine screw with 40 threads per inch, to assemble the pieces. Also, you have to waste your ground terminal because it also holds the pieces together. The screw needs to be a little longer for your wire connection. All the screws face up. There is no clearance for protruding threads underneath.
