The 1st photo is a Kibri Kit & the 2nd photo is a scratchbuilt. Not exactly a Schnabel car, more like a heavy duty flat.
This summer I hope to build a full size HO scale Schnabel that I have the prints for. That 1 will take 26 trucks & be about 26" long w/out a load.
Most Schnabel RTR cars are made by European companies. Like Kibri, Faller & a few others. Usually the starting prices are about $195.00 & up. It's about the same price if you buy all the parts from a kit builder. Then you have to supply your own trucks, couplers, detail parts & paint.
detailing and paint is where I fail. I'm ok at assembly, but paint and detailing is where I lack skill in. Ok, who am I kidding, I am only capable of putting together shake-the-box kits.
I want a RTR already painted car that has all the parts put together. I can' install trucks and couplers myself.
But most imporartantly, I want a modern US prototype, not something that's European with knuckle couplers
They dont look hard to put together, just lack of parts. No trucks/wheels, no stirrups or grabs irons, no couplers. But if i end up buying one someday i welcome the challenge.
i hear ya on that. But $80 to build one and a few extra dollars to get the rest of the parts compared to a several hundred for a brass is easier for me. lol
Only brass besides a schnabel i want is a jordan spreader.
I like the heavy duty flats and depressed center flats too, but the Walthers ones are horrible. They can pretty much derail while sitting still since they are so light
