Led for steam locomotive

Depends on scale and size of headlight. I'd use one that fits without too much trouble and is the right color, probably sunny white aka 3200K. For steam, even 3000K will be more yellow.

In the photo gallery is one I put in a brass HO steam engine. I think it is a 0603 Surface Mount LED (SMLED). They are a little tricky to solder wires to but it is possible. OK, so I looked it up and it was about 15 years ago, https://modelrailroadforums.com/forum/index.php?media/26821.1613/

rather than looking for the 'right' colour, just get some Tamiya amber, and coat the white led with that ... it will give the 'period correct' colour to the light
