When a leasing co obtains unit from another company, do they change the number or leave it as it is? I have 5 BN units that I have not been able to sell and I am thinking of patching them to my own leasing company. Also, do the always or do they have to remove the former owners name off of it? I have seen some that have the reporting marks for the leasing co but still have fromer owners name on it.Your thoughts. Kevin

Kevin, yes, yes, and yes!! There is no standard out there. I have seen every combination you just described. So it's either use prototype pictures or free-lance it like I do. :)

I know your modeling the P&W not a huge stretch to see a CBNS GP50 if it was on the NECR for work

those two gp50's date back to the frisco..you can see the pathces where they plated over the nose lights starting to rust...The frisco had ordered a handful of gp50's from emd and I think only one was painted in frisco colors..but about 10 already had the nose lights...

as far as trying to sell what you have left..what scale and what manufacturers do you have? I might be interested..Save my babies from the painters patch

how do you tell the difference? they all look the same to me.

The biggest giveaway from the u30's and 33's compared to the c30-7's is the 4 doors in front of the radiators..On all of GE's dash 7 series, thsoe 4 doors were the same width as the radiator section...prior to the dash 7 series they were the same width as the rest of the car body.

Here is a U30C (notice the "FIC" in pacific..those 4 doors stick out into the walkway the same amount as the rest of the carbody and the radiator section sticks out more..

and here is the C30-7 again (notice the "Fe" in Santa Fe sticks out further and stays flush with the radiator section behind it)

Hope that helps ;)

on a side note..the only visual difference between a u30c and a u33c is that the "wings" of the radiator stick out beyond the carbody on the u33c, similar to those on the c30-7..

here is a u33c

I have 5 HO scale Athearn units. I may not sell them know thanks to all the good info here. I have been thinking alot latley of patching these. Sorry BN8002, there was a time where I would agree with you 100% about NOT patching these. BN used to be my favorite to.
