Layout room coming along

Started this morning with my layout room looking like this:

By the end of the day, we had this:

Looks good, I know what you mean when you finally get it going forward. Very creative lighting too.

Good looking room and work, Rigby. The only thing I wonder about is the glare for the overhead lighting. I'd try painting the lower half of the lamp covering black so you don't get the head on glare and leave the upper half white so you get some light off the ceiling.

Hi Jim, thanks for the input. I'm afraid to paint the glass because the lights are high intensity halogen and very hot. I'm actually planning to run suspended cable lighting over the layout itself with the idea that the suspended lighting is for layout use and the overhead is for work mode. I agree that the glare is intolerable, although the camera saw it more than the eye does. Similarly, the camera saw the walls as much pinker than my eyes do. Its a much cooler color tone in person

In any event, taking the time to get the room well done seems like a good investment - particularly in sustain my wife's interest in being in there with me.

Ah, well, if it's just for work lights, no problem then. I think you're following the right path preparing the layout room properly before getting into any permanent benchwork. I didn't do that with mine and now am faced with having to add another set of track lights above a finished layout while balancing on a step ladder. If you hear a big crash coming from down south, you'll know what happened.
