Late afternoon sun

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Two visitors enjoy the late afternoon sun as a train passes by the Monolith Mine ruins. The duo are unaware that they're being watched by one of the local critters:

Meanwhile, In-ko-pah Railroad's locomotive #1, "Cristine", crosses the Serenity Canyon Viaduct:

The caboose displays the railroad's herald:

I agree with Mike; that is great rock work you've done there, Ray. I suspect they are chunks of real-world rock (which, if so, would make this a very heavy scene). It is so cool that the stone work on the bridge and the building are made of rock indigenous to the "area".

as the In-ko-pa is an outdoor layout, I imagine most, if not all of the rocks are real!

Yeah, it's a 1/24th scale outdoor layout. All the rocks are real, every one of them laboriously hauled in and cemented in place. About 20 tons or so. Had to replace the shocks and springs in my SUV after that, but it was still cheaper than buying rocks.

BTW, the old cabin is also made of real stone and mortar. Its design was inspired by a building in the ghost town of Rhyolite, NV. The two figures are homemade replicas of my wife and my brother. And the scale plants (cacti, ocotillo, various shrubs) are also homemade.

Ray, nice work and pictures as usual. I was going to ask you about that cabin until I saw your last post. Wasn't that stucture the Rhyolite town jail at one time? I think it was located right next to the old LV&T grade. That's an area I really enjoyed visiting.
