With this engine having factory ditch lights would I need a decoder with more then 2 functions? I would say yes if I want the ditch lights independent of the headlights but thats why you guys are here! If I do then do I need to do any rewiring of the loco or is it already a function when the decoder is pluged in?
Thanks

From the factory the headlight and ditch lights all run off the same LED, if you want them to operate separately, you'll need to wire in extra LEDs or Bulbs for the ditch lights.

Before plugging a decoder in, check that the metal tabs for the motor are not too long as they were know to cause a short in the early run SD90s. Just trim them shorter if need so they don't contact anything they shouldn't.

Thanks for the info. I didnt know they were all the same LED. I did see the instal page on KATOs web site about the motor clips.

Lets say I want an all in one decoder and sound. I have not seen any for this model, a plug and play. Would this be an EMD 3rd generation? I have seen some for a Kato c44 but none on the SD90/43. Any help here?

if everything is the same from the n and ho sd90
meaning the ditch lights work off the light pipe set up then it
should... you might need larger or lower resitors

For those who have this loco what decoder are you using? I started the work on the ditch lights so I need one with SFX output. The D14SR from NCE looks nice but they also talk about a KRS-SR.
