I just got an Athearn N scale SD70M and I need to install a MRC DCC/Sound decoder. Can someone tell me how to get the shell off? I think I can see tabs on the front and rear underside but do I need to remove the couplers?
 
Assuming the N scale version is like the HO version, you have to remove both couplers and then pry the shell slightly until the tabs release. Don't worry if you break one tab, the shell will still hold fine with the remaining tabs.
