I was wondering who else buys engines every week. I just started this hobby approx. 3 months ago and i have found myself hitting all the train shops, and ebay constantly. Ever since i got into this i don't get stooped by trains. I drive around trying to get stopped by them. I started a layout, but i have no power to it yet, because I'm buying engines all the time. How many engines do you guys have.
I have

4 Athearn RTR Dash 9's NS
2 Athearn Genesis SD60m NS
1 Athearn Genesis SD70Mac NS
1 Kato Dash 9 NS
1 Athearn Bl box SD60 NS
2 Dash 9 Dummy
And I just bought my first Atlas Master Silver Series Dash 8 BNSF! Can't wait to see what that looks like. I not happy with kato. The attention to detail isn't there.

In summary if you don't like getting stopped by trains all the time start model railroading!

Well I have four. I have found it to be much more enjoyable to have a layout to run on than just a bunch of rolling stock sitting on a shelf. Just my 2cents.

You're in what we call the "accumulation phase"! Most new hobbyists go through this. Everything looks so great you just can't stop buying. If I were you, I'd take a breath and examine my objectives. Do you want to collect locomotives? If so, (and there's nothing wrong with that by the way;)) then you're off to a great start. Does a particular era interest you? Sounds like modern does. How about a particular railroad or area? Maybe NS? you focus is actually pretty good right now so consider keeping it on something that you really like. I ended up selling a bunch of stuff that didn't fit in with what I wanted to do. In any case, welcome!

Sound like you have the bug for sure. I'm just finally coming out of the accumulation phase after a year and a half. With the dust settling I have 14 loco's, mostly sound, about 50 plus rolling stock, and a decent sized layout with NCE 5 amp system with 2 corded and 1 radio controller. What helped me stop is my favorite manufacturer (Atlas) hasn't put out a new modern engine in the last couple of months.:D

Yeah I am sure I'm going to do modern, because its easier I think. I decided to due NS and some BNSF because I got NS line that comes throught every ten mins. and I like the black and white. Bnsf comes throught too, and occasionally i see some CP.

I think we all go through that phase. In my first year building a layout after a 30 year hiatus, I think I bought about 20 locomotives in the first month. After almost three years, I'm now in the "burn-out" phase, where I only buy something if I really want it.

ha ha ha

i'am at 30 locos and about 20 peices of rolling stock.
i have old and new,if it has wheels i like it

I wonder if it isn't something else at play here. The interest in trains is the catalyst, but the bidding experience on ebay, and the occasional win, plus the rush one gets by being acquisitive, is probably fueling a buying addiction. I mean, it's not a bad one to have.....but.....:D

I'm now at the point where I'm now running about 75 engines, most of 'em ATLAS RS2's/3's/11's. Then come 6 RDC's 4-1's and 2 2's. And 2 brass doodlebugs. Then a coupla odd pieces.:D:D:D

I've given up trying to count all the dang rolling stock:eek::eek:

Now. If'n someone will come out with some nice GMD1's with A1A trucks I'd buy 6 in a flash----:D;):):):):)

Oh, yeah, I went through that phase. There were so many new and neat locomotives since the last time I had a layout I was like a kid in a candy shop. I think I spent about 10 hours a day on e-bay that first month and have some locomotives that, in retrospect, I probably shouldn't have bought. It was the thrill of the hunt that drove some of those purchases. Anyone need a few extra NKP switchers? :)

my case is i was allways liking n scale BUT at the time a $300.00
riverossi bigboy or challenger was out of the question for me.....

now i have two challengers one bigboy, one u50 and a LOT of ac4400cw's
a few c44-w's and gp38's. a full set of kato NYC pa-1's and cars:o

i think i'm in similar mode at the moment. but so far holding off. only purchasing turnouts for now. but i did miss several car/engine auctions i wanted to bid on

haha same here, also recently started and am eagerly awaiting a couple engines from ebay to show up. luckily I have roommates so I can't get too carried away with this, right? :D

ummm guys I think I need to go to a clinic:rolleyes::rolleyes:...I have been the hobby for 32years and well I still have not stopped buying locos and rolling stock:o:o....ooops...there is a phase? :confused:I thought it was on giant ordeal....aaack! :eek:Is there an AA for a modelrailroader? :rolleyes:LOL...I am doomed!:D:D:D:D

If you have roomates and running DCC be sure to turn the max speed to under half, especially when unattended. This will prevent them from rading them over the edge of the layout.
