Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am not all that mechanically inclined, so I won't be tearing into the internal mechanisms of locomotives. For that I will have to rely upon professionals.

Thank you, too, for sharing your knowledge. Buying used locomotives seems even more intricate than buying used guns. When I buy such equipment, I consider what might be wrong with it, and then I consider a worst case scenario in terms of potential future cost of getting what I desire. As in real estate, a once-in-a-lifetime deal comes along about once a month. From my perspective, often it's worth buying new for peace-of-mind...and warranty!

No prob, I try to help since I have quite a bit of experience in rebuilding and repowering older engines. Most of the older steam locomotives, espicaly Rivarossi's can be made to run very nicely with a better motor and a good cleaning and regreasing. Mike
